Husband and wife team, Jon and Kerry have drawn on their own personal experiences of family travel before deciding to buy and renovate the seaside property that is now the wonderful 5ley Apartments on the seafront of Filey. Kerry said "when on previous family holidays there was always things we thought could have been better. So we have put all our improvements into practice and thus we have 5leys". And 5leys really does them credit.

The Accommodation

A typical Victorian seafront property from the outside the wow factor starts working its magic as you step inside. On the ground floor there is the relaxing area with big squishy sofas to sink into and enjoy that glorious view. A handy bar is open for snacks and beverages throughout the day and the coffee comes highly recommended.

The Apartments are simply top notch from the quality of the fixtures and fittings to the flexible self catering facilities. The Apartments have either one or two bedrooms and also have a sofa bed in the lounge so that a family of 6 plus a baby can be easily accommodated. The muted tones of the decoration gives a relaxing atmosphere to the place - simply done yet stylish with solid oak kitchen units and doors and all mod cons including flat screen TVs in every room and a dishwasher. You will find them completely spotless and extremely well maintained.

Child-Friendly Facilities

Towards the rear of the property there is a designated children's play area complete with trampoline and climbing frame. Every aspect has been considered for families to make this an enjoyable stay when travelling with children of any age.  The kiddies area on the ground floor means you have a chance to relax with a beverage from the bar while they can be busy producing you the next Rembrandt. No one wants to be washing clothes whilst on holiday but it was good to know if the kids got covered from head to foot on an exciting day's excursion there is laundry facilities available on the ground floor. The reception area holds a selection of children's books and a range of DVD's for loan.

Family-Friendly Restaurant

 A restaurant is located on the ground floor of the property and is open from 4th March to 2nd October 2010 and serves the most delicious wholesome food at reasonable prices. Lunch is served from 12 to 2pm and Dinner served 6pm to 9pm. A separate children's dinner is served 5pm to 6pm. Although there is no specific children's menu the restaurant will adapt the main menu and cook to order children's meals from fresh, with sauces and jus ‘on the side'.

Family Activities

Needless to say when you have got such a prime seaside location, I know what my kids would want to do; digging sandcastles, jumping the waves, flying a kite - all just simple pleasures, that don't cost anything, but make for happy child hood memories. Filey offers great facilities in the form of the park with its boating lake, the cobble landing with an amusement arcade, crazy golf, children's rides, paddling pool and bouncy castles on the promenade and not forgetting the donkey rides on the beach.

Lasting Impression

The holiday complex is situated a mere 7 metres from the Blue Flag Sands, which form part of the five-mile stretch of award-winning sandy beach in this picturesque Victorian town. It's the perfect location for a beach-side holiday, and 5 Leys enjoys magnificent panoramic views of Filey Bay, from Filey Brigg in the North, to Flamborough Lighthouse in the South.
