A wonderful idyllic and luxurious place to stay - a treat for the kids and parents too.
Not only are you guaranteed comfort at the Calcot Manor you are guaranteed peace of mind which is apparent upon entering your accommodation, one of ten specially-designed family rooms. The rooms are situated in a converted barn set around a pretty courtyard in front of the main house. All are individually and beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable; all have plenty of space for little ones to crawl around. In Deluxe rooms parents sleep in the main part of the room, children have chair-beds or cots as required. Family suites comprise a main bedroom with a private bathroom and a separate sleeping area for the children. The Large and Deluxe family suites are spread over 2 floors with 2 separate bedrooms and a private garden.
Each family room is provided with a baby box holding all of the essentials including bottle warmers, sterilisers, changing mats, nappy bags and bottle-brushes. Fridges are in rooms also to store milk as well as more grown up beverages! If there is anything you have forgotten just ask – this hotel won’t leave you stranded.
All of the family rooms reassuringly have a baby monitoring service linked directly to reception allowing you to take dinner later if you should choose. Alternatively baby-sitting can be arranged using crèche staff or members of the hotel’s nanny network at a cost of £8.50 an hour (paid directly to the sitter).
Entertainment options are completely covered for children of all ages. The fully staffed, Ofsted-accredited Playzone day nursery is set in a fabulous restored barn and is equipped with all any child between the age of 0-16 might want including art, dressing up, toys and games. It is open between 9am – 5.30pm, 7 days a week. For older children the Mez (situated on the mezzanine floor in the Barn) has tons of games, including table football, Wii, Xbox, Playstation as well as computers and home cinema complete with the latest dvds.
Need exercise? There is of course the 220 acres of grounds to explore complete with cycling trails (bikes with child seats are available free), walking paths, tennis courts and during the summer months, a maize maze. There is also the outdoor heated pool as well as the indoor one that has a dedicated toddler pool alongside it. Children can use the spa pool between 3.45pm and 5.15pm during the week and 8.45am and 10.15pm at weekends.
Calcot Spa – and you might well get the chance to sample it given the fabulous child-care – has a 16-metre pool, sauna, steamroom, outdoor hot tub, exercise studio, tennis and seven treatment rooms providing a wide range of therapies to relax, rejuvenate or energise. There is also a fantastically equipped gym as well as fitness trails should you have the inclination.
Food? Well high tea is served at 5.30pm in the Gumstool Inn. The children’s menu is delicious - entirely home-made and organic to boot – what more do we need to say? High chairs are available, baby food or milk can be heated on request and if needed a packed lunch can be prepared. For grown ups the food is exquisite – the wine menu comprehensive – the experience a treat. In fact that might have just summed up your stay at Calcot – a treat for all the family and sure to be repeated.
