This child-friendly Bed & Breakfast is perfectly located in quiet surroundings yet close to the centre of beautiful Ambleside village. This makes The Old Vicarage convenient for local amenities, with a very short walking distance to shops, bars, restaurants and cinema. It also has the added bonus of having its own parking within the lovely wooded grounds. A big plus for guests is the use of a superb newly built, on-site indoor heated swimming pool, sauna & hot tub. As well as children being warmly welcomed, well-behaved dogs are welcome too. A lock-up is available for you to bring bikes. Relax in its cosy atmosphere or soak up the gorgeous countryside, The Old Vicarage is ideal for a family rural retreat.

George and Dragon, Cumbria

The George and Dragon is a beautiful country estate pub and restaurant with rooms. Situated in a charming village, Clifton, the pub is to be found on the side of the old A6 (so it’s very easy to find). Historically Clifton marks the site of the last battle to take place on English soil in 1745. The "Rebel Oak", where the rebel army of Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated and driven out of England, is right behind the pub. Should you wish to pursue the historical slant you’re in the perfect place but … you have a beautifully and elegantly restored inn to enjoy so don’t spend too much time out exploring. The ten individually designed and decorated bedrooms, each with en suite bathrooms, contain beautiful crewel work materials, quality linens and comfy beds. The pub is extremely welcoming and has food to scoff that is delectable and real ales to test - oh and the kids are very welcome - perfect!

Feel the history in the heart of elegant Holland Park. One wing of this property is a former Jacobean mansion, built in 1607 for Sir Walter Cope, Chancellor of the Exchequer for James I. In the 19th century, Lady Holland had a salon here, attended by such famous names as Sheridan, Sir Walter Scott, Lord Byron, Wordsworth and Dickens. It now offers large, comfortable rooms that overlook the park and is adjacent to the open air theatre. Just off Kensington High Street, the Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Palace and the main museums are all within walking distance.
