Coed Mawr Hall & Cottages, Conwy

Coed Mawr Hall, Rowen, Conwy, North Wales

Accommodation

Built around 1810 the Hall possesses extensive and peaceful grounds and a view of the valley below and the mountains beyond to keep you enchanted. Ian and Craig returned to Wales from the streets of London and moved to Coed Mawr only back in July - it's remarkable that they have already then transformed the cottages, previously converted from the grand ball room, into three WTB 5-star, self-catering cottages, all very tastefully furnished and all extremely well equipped, down to the kids cutlery, picnic hamper and doggy bed and bowls for your four-legged friend. Games and magazines are provided for rainy, lazy days by the fire or for when you just don't want to leave.

Two of the three cottages sleep six; the other sleeps four. All have lounge/dining rooms with wooden floors and patio doors out to the rear of the property where you may use the lovely landscaped rear garden or enjoy your own secluded patio area. The kitchens are very well equipped and include a washing machine and dish-washer - there is also a convenient drying room which you will know is a real bonus. The two larger cottages have a double en-suite bedroom, a twin room and a bunk-room, as well as a bathroom complete with overhead shower. The third cottage has a double and a twin room, both with sloping ceilings, and a bathroom with overhead shower. Ty Pella (sleeps 6) has an open fire with a safety fireguard provided - the others have log effect electric fires - all have LPG central heating. All cottages have iPod docks.

The aim of your hosts is to ensure a truly 'Welsh experience' hence the sourcing of local produce and wares which includes the soft furnishings from the local Trefriw Woollen Mill which is worth a visit.

Activities

Outdoors you have the glorious gardens that you have full access to and the lovely countryside to enjoy. The gardens are shared with the menagerie of animals at the Hall - gorgeous friendly dogs, ducks, hens and a pond full of fish that all need feeding daily, the kids (and adults) are welcome to help out. Otherwise you can spot the abundance of wildlife around here including buzzards, kestrels, herons, foxes, pheasants and squirrels.

The cottages are an ideal base for you all to enjoy this scenic part of Wales - from the picturesque in-land villages of Trefriw (which incidentally has a very good pub The Ship) and Betws-y-Coed, to fabulous coastal towns, such as Conwy and Llandudno, to enjoy some good old fashioned family holiday fun.  There is loads to see and do including walking (you're in Wales!), mountain biking, lake, river and sea fishing, horse riding, golf, treetop walking, dry ski slope or a trip out to the zoo or puppet theatre, Bodnant Gardens or maybe a garden maze! Ian and Craig will be only too happy to advise what's on and available during your stay so just ask.

It is possible to accept visitors with restricted mobility. There are no steps at the rear of the cottages; there are stairs provided with robust handrails to the first floor.

Necessary bits - all fuel and power, linen & towels are included. Cot, highchair and baby gates are available on request.

NOTE: By 2010 it is hoped that the remainder of the house opens as a boutique bed and breakfast. It will be hard to decide in which part to stay - unless that is the B & B is suitable only for Away without the Kids!
