Evesham Hotel, Worcestershire
The Evesham Hotel, Coopers Lane, Off Waterside, Evesham
The Evesham and it's reputation is broadly based on the fact that it's owners - the Jenkinsons - have run this place for over 30 years so be assured they know how to make all of you feel welcome.
Accommodation
You have a choice of rooms - the 'standard' ones are ordinary but like the rest of the hotel spotlessly clean; the themed family rooms will delight the children and are different! All rooms have a tv, thermostatic control heating, kettle with tea and coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits and real milk in the fridge, as well as a complimentary welcoming mini-bottle of wine, fruit juice and mineral water. Free Wi-fi access is available in all rooms.
Should you want more space Mulberry Cottage in the garden is a bungalow perfect for the less mobile and those with tearing around toddlers! The cottage has a double and a twin room, a bath & walk in shower and a large sitting room. Meals can be taken in the cottage should you prefer.
The hotel is just a short stroll into town, which is hard to believe when ensconced in the 2½ acre garden. There's plenty of room for the kids to explore and play, including putting, a trampoline and swings whilst you appreciate the 300 year old Mulberry trees and take some time out. Should the weather be inclement there's an indoor fun pool - manned by a gorilla so best you be there! - as well as a play room to stop the itchy feet taking off.
Meals
Lunch is served between 12.30 - 2.00pm; Dinner 7.00 - 9.30pm - the à la carte menu is changed weekly. The same menu is available at lunch as well as dinner and consists of "un-mucked about" food and presumably mucked about food - there's a huge choice that includes vegetarian options too and delicious ‘proper' puddings! In addition the lunch time buffet, consisting of up to 40 different dishes, and priced at a very reasonable £9.75 could keep you going for a couple of days instead.
For grown ups there is a quandary - do you read the 600 bottle wine list (which has no French or German wines listed) and try to work out what to drink with dinner or do you decide on a taster trip from the widest array of alcoholic drinks that you are likely to come across? (Trouble with this is my man will take up the challenge never to rouse again!).
Children get to eat from 5.30pm and food is cooked to order from a junior a la carte menu. Meals are cooked to order so don't waltz in at the last minute, please give half hours notice.
To Do
Loads of lovely villages and towns to explore including Stratford though be warned of the hordes during holiday season, it can get so busy - it's still lovely though! Warwick with it's majestic and very exciting castle - complete with ghost - as well as the river is well worth a trip. Worcester has it's fine cathedral and shopping! The Vale of Evesham is very pretty - take to your car and have a scoot around - ask at reception if you are short of ideas. The Cotswold Wildlife Park and The Cotswold Farm Park are both popular days out for families.
It is very clear that mobile phones should not be used in public areas - be warned that you will be asked to turn yours off should it beep let alone ring!

Our stay was fleeting, but very enjoyable. The family room was really impressive; a twin bed area for the kids, with steps down to a sitting area, complete with comfy sofas, games, a fridge stocked with wine, juice, snacks and real milk at no extra cost, plus a separate double sleeping area. The bathroom was enormous too, and well stocked (even a baby bath). The swimming pool was an added bonus, and the gardens were really lovely. Best for us was the breakfast: the range of cereals surpassed Tesco, and best of all they were all standard boxes so the kids could try a bit of everything chocolatey. All in all, a really comfortable, homely hotel. We kept our phones firmly switched off.
