Gleneagles, Perthshire

Auchterarder, Perthshire, Scotland

Offering world-class golf courses and world-class luxury the Gleneagles resort also offers a truly world-class family friendly welcome - huge sigh of relief on landing when the kids received huge beaming smiles and banter from the kindly men dragging our bags out of the car.

There is a plethora of activities designed to keep all of your family occupied and happy in the beautiful Perthshire countryside; that's grandparents down to the newest born (all facilities needed for your babies care are provided). Many families were taking in the fresh Scottish air and admiring the beautiful views - as well as cycling, strolling, playing mini-golf and generally having a relaxed old time.

This fantastic family friendly hotel has every facility, activity and luxury imaginable for you to enjoy. Whatever you choose to do, the hotel ensures the finest and most elegant comfort, be that in your gorgeous luxury bedroom, in a fine dining restaurant, having a relaxed meal with the kids or enjoying the calming environment of the fabulous destination Spa by ESPA.

With 232 spacious bedrooms, including a variety of gorgeous suites, you will find a room to suit all of your family's needs. As you'd expect the rooms are truly sumptuous with shockingly roomy en-suites and fabulous amenities in keeping with a hotel of this rating. The luxury sits well with the Godsend - the DVD player and cable/satellite TV, as much as we may want to dissuade our kids from watching, it's a useful tool to have!

The children's amenities are simply incredible and the list of outdoor activities too long to mention - look at the Activities Offer on the site and you'll see what I mean; tennis camps, scurry driving, sorcerers school, bicycle treasure hunt, off-roading (we have certificates proudly displayed!) and they are on top of the ‘everyday' facilities available to children, like The Playroom where younger kids are looked after and occupied beautifully with exciting games and loads of creative play. Eve and Lottie didn't want to leave and left armed with pencil cases and "making items" aplenty and even then only when we had booked them in for the next day! It's a perfect match as the hotel is too lovely to not enjoy the fabulous grown up things in abundance.

Older kids get to hang out in The Zone where computer games, pool, table football matches and karaoke duets on the Sony SingStar® are waiting to entice them into action. It's a lively atmosphere to be a part of!

There are several places to eat. Be assured that, as Gleneagles has an international reputation for excellent cuisine and fine dining, the finest fresh produce available locally in Perthshire and Scotland is used, as well as from specialist suppliers around the world. If dining with the children choose either The Strathearn, a grand restaurant serving the finest Scottish dishes, or the more chilled out Deseo where Mediterranean cuisine is served - Eve and Lottie loved building their pizzas and ate the lot too - always a huge bonus.

For adults The Bar, found at the heart of the hotel serves morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon tea with all the trimmings. Aperitifs are served early evening; it's also a good spot for a night-cap late on! Room service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, giving you the option to enjoy a meal in the privacy of your own room.

Andrew Fairlie, a two Michelin-starred restaurant, could be the venue for that rare treat - the parent's evening out; cuisine is described as ‘unashamedly French with a Scottish twist'.

Babysitting services can be pre- arranged meaning you can grab yourselves a relaxing evening before the next day's strenuous activities. We decided on the treat of a meal alone and booked in a baby-sitter who arrived promptly and in a truly jolly Mary Poppins fashion promptly brushed away any doubt as to how appropriate our behaviour was abandoning our children! Eve and Lotts were snuggled up in no time having stories and were more than happy to say goodbye (!) and were fast asleep when we arrived back after a truly delicious and memorable meal.

Gleneagles delivers - it is top end - it is somewhat of an institution in Golfing Land but so is it enormously child-friendly - enjoy.
