Lower Mill Estate, Somerford Keynes Nr Cirencester, Gloucestershire

Helen Says
A beautiful lakeside holiday home on a private gated nature reserve. Families will be spoilt for choice with the extra facilities available.

Goose Nest House really is something special. The vaulted, open-plan living area is reverse living, with wall to wall glass and sliding doors to the balcony overlooking Somerford Lagoon, the largest lake on the Estate. With stair gates on both sets of stairs, and a high glass fronted balcony, a toy box, children's books and DVDs and plenty of space, your children can play safely whilst you relax and enjoy the lakeside view. Goose Nest is a family holiday home which has been equipped with all the things you need when you go away to make it a home from home for you and your family to relax and enjoy.

There are two kings, two twins and a specially designed child's bedroom with a small, low child's bed and barrier. Luxury mattresses are standard to help you rejuvenate, as are fluffy towels and crisp white Egyptian cotton sheets. Two travel cots each with an additional breathable mattress and high chairs are provided free of charge for your convenience. The modern kitchen has a family-sized fridge freezer, 5 hob double oven, microwave, dishwasher and washer-dryer. As well as child cutlery and plates, there is a steriliser and bottle warmer. For those of you that need to puree baby food a blender is also provided. For older children there is a Nintendo Game Cube and a selection of games, a DVD player with a range of DVD suitable for children of all ages. For the more traditional amongst us, a wide range of board games for those long summer evenings.

Lower Mill Estate has been designed with children in mind enclosed in a gated environment, where cars are discouraged. There are seven lakes and the River Thames runs through the Estate (just three miles from its source). There are lots of walks through the private nature reserve with hides dotted around so you can spot the otters, kingfishers and beavers. In the school holidays, the Estate runs a range of family-friendly activities including painting competitions, nature walks, family cycle rides and the infamous August Bank Holiday fete. A handy on-site shop stocks local goodies. The spa is just three minute's stroll away and offers over 50 pampering treatments for frazzled parents to de-stress (extra cost). The children are most welcome in the ultra stylish, heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools. There are playgrounds, trampolines, a pets corner, football pitch and tennis court together with bike and boat hire.

In and around Cirencester there are a range of activities to occupy the minds and feet! Cotswold Wildlife Park is about half an hour's drive away with a wide range of animals and a miniature train ride; Bourton on Water has a model village and separate model railway. For the animal lover, the RSPB's Slimbridge is within easy driving distance. Closer by is Butts Farm for families with petting areas and Keynes Country Park. Westonbirt Aboreteum is about 20 minutes' drive away and often has weekend and holiday activities for children. Cotswold Water Park has a range of activities for children.
