Surrounded by luscious Welsh countryside, woodlands, meadows and nature in abundance, Hidden Valley Yurts and Lake House is an ideal location for families to escape it all. Wonderfully comfortable yurts, with luxury finishes and totally self-contained facilities allow you to hide away and delight in a slower, calmer pace of life. But whilst slower might suit mum and dad, there's plenty to keep kids, of all ages, entertained, engaged and happily worn out by the end of the day.

About this place

Best bits

  • The communal eating area, campfire and pizza oven is a dreamy spot for families to come together to socialise, dine, toast marshmallows and play games.
  • King size beds, wood burning stoves, lashings of fairy lights and private deckings with enviable views – the accommodation is spectacular.
  • It’s a no car site. No cars are allowed beyond the car park to provide a safe place for kids to explore and allow parents to relax.

Top tips

  • You can hire a hot tub for the duration of your trip. For an additional fee, enjoy an evening soak under the canopy, or start your day relaxing in a tub of warm, gently bubbling Welsh Spring water.
  • It’s a really quiet rural location and because this is a valley, noise gets amplified, so if you’re looking for a lively, loud holiday, this might not be the one. Bookings from larger families are very much welcomed though.
  • Bedding isn’t supplied but is available to hire (be sure to arrange this before you arrive), or you can bring your own sleeping bags, pillows, etc.

Accessibility

Unfortunately the yurts are pitched in a meadow, that means access can’t be guaranteed to be level or totally safe. The Lake House is accessed via a gravel path, but it is single store with both bedrooms and bathrooms located on ground floor.

About the owners

Mike

Listed since August 2022

We bought and took over the running of Lower Glyn Farm, the home of Hidden Valley Yurts, in 2015. After over 20 years in the insurance industry it was time to do something completely different, and a shift in lifestyle with a focus on wellbeing and a healthy mind and body was needed. Seven years on, there have been some challenges, some disasters, but more importantly an awful lot of fun and enjoyment. We have completely (well almost) rebuilt the site, maintaining and improving the facilities and turning an old cricket pavilion into the fabulous new Lake House. We love sharing the farm with our guests, and love the way the sound of children playing and laughing brings the valley to life after a long cold winter.

Owner recommendations

  • Outdoor Adventure Activity offer loads of family-focused, fun activities your kids will love. Paddle boarding, rock climbing, gorge scrambling – you name it, they do it.

  • Pick up the very best local supplies and produce at Hanley Farm Shop. The shop stocks everything from berries to beers, most sourced from within 30 miles so it’s super fresh. Enjoy a coffee and cake in their cafe whilst you’re at it.

  • Follow a footpath from the farm all the way to one of our favourite traditional village pubs,The Carpenters Arms. Family-friendly, great food and a short walk away.

  • Take a ride on the Forest of Dean railway; an old steam train that takes a scenic route through the forest.

  • There’s lots of castles, walking routes and National Trust properties nearby. Just ask us for recommendations.
