At Holwell Farm you simply have the best of both worlds - the stunning location in the heart of the Dartmoor National Parks yet within a short car ride away from some of the most child friendly beaches on the south coast. Plymouth, Salcombe, Torbay and Dawlish are all within 40 - 50 minutes by car. The nearest town Bovey Tracey (10 minutes drive) is steeped in history and has a glorious open air swimming pool and a renowned yearly contemporary craft fair (around June time).
All cottages are extremely child friendly with cots and highchairs provided as standard and a babysitting service can be arranged with prior notice. Stay in one of the six immaculate cottages that have been lovingly and tastefully converted from barns to luxury holiday cottages that sleep families of up to 6 and 8 maximum. Each retains its unique character and charm with the ultimate in home comforts and surroundings that are truly breath-taking. The living accommodation of each cottage is laid out in open plan form to ensure maximum feeling of space, light, views and that no one is feeling left out of it in the kitchen!
Set in 500 acres of moorland Holwell is a place simply where all the family can have a fun and relaxing time. There are so many natural pursuits to enjoy that are free to enjoy and are not "manufactured fun". Children will not feel the need to reach for their latest electronic games gadget and instead can fill their time exploring the nearby tors, with trees to climb, brooks to splash around in and a host of flora and fauna to wonder at. Together with the animals to feed - there are always lots of piglets being born and foals from May to July being born, these are the wonderful memories that children will vividly recall in years to come. There is a good stock of DVD's at the cottages for families to borrow for chill out time. With several really good family friendly pubs and cafes within walking and short driving distance the choice to eat in or out is yours. You always know that your children will sleep well at Holwell because the air is so pure and they will be so exhausted from their day's excursions. A small collection of bikes and trucks is available for children to play within the court yard.
The farm rears its own beef, lamb and pork and even has a butchery on site so you can buy the freshest meat for your very own BBQ or Sunday roast. You can also pre-order for your fridge to be stocked up ready for your arrival. A welcome pack is included for stays of 7 days or more which includes milk, bread, butter, cereals, jams, eggs, sausages, bacon and wine. For shorter breaks the welcome pack can be ordered £25.
Guests have exclusive access to the majority of the 400 acre Holwell estate and maps will clearly indicate where this access is available. The map also highlights walks, places of interest, wildlife habitat, areas of historical and archaeological importance together with suggested spots for picnics, a spot of fishing or a paddle in the Becka Brook. There are also designated areas for BBQs. At Holwell extra outdoor activities can be arranged on site including guided walks or hikes, wildlife expeditions, flying with eagles and hawks, and of course riding - be it horse or bikes.
