Red Doors Farm, Devon

Child Friendly Holidays, Honiton, East Devon

Helen Says
Red Doors Farm is such an easy option when holidaying with little ones. It has numerous child friendly facilities, in particular for pre-schoolers, that all members of the family are guaranteed to enjoy a super holiday.

Red Doors Farm is a charming private hamlet nestling within the Blackdown Hills, only 12 miles from East Devon and Dorset coastlines and is an idyllic haven for a true baby, toddler and child friendly holiday. Situated near the Devon/Somerset border and 3 miles from the market town of Honiton, it is easily accessible from London and the Midlands.

The new owners, Adrian and Gill are a great asset to Red Doors Farm and have so much passion and dedication to make your stay here the best holiday experience as possible. They live on-site which means they are always on hand to make sure everything runs smoothly.

The Holiday Cottages

The cottages, set in two acres, are picturesque in themselves with their thatched roofs and rose twinned front doors. Add to this the glorious countryside views over the Otter Valley and you know you are in a special place. The largest cottage is the 500 year old grade 2* listed Devon long house of stone and cob with original beams, oak paneling and flagstone floor. Sleeping a family of 8 plus room for cots, it is bursting with charm and character - the walls are so thick you may need to go near the windows to get phone reception. There are another 3 cottages for larger families sleeping 5 in 2 bedrooms and 6 in 3 bedrooms. For parents with a baby or families who wish to bring the grandparents along, a further 2 one bedroom cottages complete the accommodation. The interiors of all the cottages have just had the benefit of Gill's magic touch to them and are beautifully presented.

The delightful and spacious open planned gardens offer the perfect haven for family enjoyment. Each cottage has a terrace/garden with hardwood patio furniture and BBQ (roll on the summer!). When you arrive you are welcomed with a hamper full of local goodies.

Child and Family Friendly Facilities

All this and I haven't even touched on the fantastic facilities Red Doors Farm offers. An indoor heated swimming pool provides hours of entertainment for kids of all ages and really comes into its own when the weather decides not to play ball. The gardens are a delight featuring children's play areas with swings, slide and play houses, garden games, a giant trampoline with safety enclosure and a wide selection of ride on toys.

An additional thatched games barn provides an extra covered play area with table tennis and table football. And for the under 6's they have their own cosy indoor play area which is packed with games to encourage imaginative play. Adjoining this parents can relax whilst keeping an eye on the little ones with a pool table, books, Playstation 2 with a library of games, videos and a local information board with useful suggestions to help plan your itinerary for the week.

Travel cots, highchairs and safety gates are provided on request.

Holiday Extras

If you want to chill out in your surroundings and need a break from cooking then check out the highly qualified and trained chef who will cook (and clean up afterwards) in your own kitchen, paying special attention to using the best local ingredients. The freezer in the games room is packed with locally produced ready meals and operates on an honesty system, which means that you don't have to cook all week on holiday as we all deserve a break! Groceries and essentials can be ordered and delivered from all the major food stores – Waitrose, Sainsbury and Tesco, for your convenience. There is even a take away restaurant who will deliver free of charge. Evening sitting service can be arranged using qualified nurses/teachers. All are CRB checked and advanced booking is advisable.

Also for your delight and well-being book a health and beauty service with "My Personal Sanctuary".

Location and things to do in Devon and beyond
