The Bingham, Richmond, Surrey
61 - 63 Petersham Road, Richmond Upon Thames, Surrey
Now under the care of Samantha Trinder (whose parents originally founded a B & B here) and Isidor Gorgevik the hotel aims to provide a home from home - albeit a very beautiful, luxurious home which may leave you wondering "if only"!
As contemporary as the interior may be the service is purely traditional; the fabulous food and fine wine list served in the exquisite acclaimed restaurant, the striking cocktail and lounge bar and the warmest service should be enough to see you returning again and again.
And this place is child-friendly. It is more than a perfect "Baby-mooning" location - delectable surroundings and lavish rooms will help you regain the "you" time that sometimes can get astray. Most of the 15 gorgeous rooms have space for an extra bed or cot. They also have a flatscreen TV, DVD/CD library, iPod dock and sound system and a minibar (otherwise known as baby milk storage). Wi-fi is available throughout the hotel. Superior River and River Design doubles have Jacuzzis. For those of you with a "family" Sappho, a Superior River room, interconnects with a small double, Iris, providing the perfect arrangement for you and the kids.
Once dinner has been booked you can grab a glass of wine and get on and enjoy the delightful garden and watch the world go by via the river. The hotel garden is large enough for a good run around (always a bonus) and conveniently has a large wall at the end of the lawn to keep your little ones from practicing their swimming techniques. Should you want to get and explore horse riding, bike hire and boat trips to Hampton Court and Kew Gardens can be arranged via the hotel.
Children are able to eat in the restaurant at all times. A delicious - and wholesome - two-course children's menu is available for £14, with smart dishes like dover sole fish fingers, organic chicken and home-made ice cream. Colouring pencils and books are available to help keep them occupied. High chairs are available if required. Plan B: most things can be rustled up and served in your room if things just aren't going to plan.
Should you wish to grab some grown up time babysitting can be arranged and is charged from £10 an hour (48 hours is required so mention this when booking). Otherwise baby monitors work in every room so you can dine in peace knowing you'll get a screech should you be needed. Staff are happy to listen in while you dine.
There are many, many things to see and do whilst staying here including simple things like taking a stroll in the delightful Richmond Park - or shopping - just ask and be pointed in the right direction. That leaves me to wish you a very enjoyable stay!
