The Quiet Site, Cumbria

Ullswater, Cumbria.

A secluded family run park with spectacular views overlooking Lake Ullswater

What a fantastic idea the new addition wooden pods are. We are an expanding family and our tent capacity is no longer big enough to accommodate the five of us, but I really fancy the option of taking our current tent and hiring out a pod. For a start they are already set up for your arrival and with the inclement British weather they are a guaranteed dry place and are insulated. The girls still like the thrill of sleeping under canvas. So it would be a toss of the coin to who could bag the pod with toddler Alfie.

This is a superbly maintained and very picturesque site, the facilities being housed mainly in old converted farm buildings. There is a well stocked shop which is handy as Glenridding is about 25 minutes away. An on site olde-worlde bar serves a variety of local ales but no food. Relax with a pint next to the large open log fire or play a game of pool while the youngsters playroom is conveniently adjacent. To keep the children occupied there is a large adventure playground set in its own field and for when the weather is unkind a television room and children's games room with table football, air hockey and table tennis.

The clean and pleasant shower blocks have free hot water, hairdryers and are next to the popular family bathrooms. Disabled facilities are installed in one of the bathrooms. A Laundry room houses a washing machine and tumble dryer, a deep sink for hand washing and an iron for your convenience. If you are a family that has a dog there is a pet walking field through a wild meadow. Electric hook ups are available for motor homes, caravans and tents. The Quiet Site has an objective to be carbon neutral. To achieve this they have instigated numerous environmentally friendly facilities including: low energy lighting with movement detectors; reed bed water treatment; water harvesting for all loos; tree planting for unavoidable emissions; wood burner boilers, amongst others.

Take advantage of the hand crafted walking guide on offer that lists numerous beautiful walks that you can start from right outside the Quiet Site - some tailored to an amble with the kids. There are many and numerous activities and attractions within a 30 minute drive away, making it an ideal position for touring both the North and South Lakes by car.
