V&A Museum of Childhood, London

Welcoming over 400,000 visitors every year, the Museum houses the V&A’s collection of childhood-related objects dating from the 1600s to the present day, including toys and dolls' houses, games, childcare, furniture, clothing, fine art and photography. In addition to temporary exhibitions and events, a range of free activities for families are on offer in the Museum every day. Open daily 10-17.45 (closed 24-26 December and 1 January). Find it right next to Bethnal Green tube station.

Life is an educational charity who want everyone to get switched on to science. Their centre in Newcastle offers opportunities to have a great time exploring and learning about all sorts of things about the world we live in. A great outing for all the family, there are different areas for different ages - including a Young Explorers Zone for the under 7's, an exciting 4D motion ride for older children and the new Curiosity Zone for all ages.
