Westonbirt is home to a whopping 16,000 trees spanning 2500 species. The trees are from across the world including Japan, Chile and North America, and they make Westonbirt a wonderful destination for walks and picnics. There are trails and activities, guided walks and events throughout the summer. It is buggy friendly, there are facilities for babies and children, and there's a playground, a cafe, a restaurant and a picnic area. Lovely.

Play trails and facilities

Westonbirt Arboretum's fantastic natural resources bring out the child in many visitors, young and old alike. But there are some specific play areas designed especially with younger visitors in mind.

From crawling through a giant trunk tunnel, to sitting in a leafy hammock, our Exploratree play area for young children and toddlers (five years and under) is about providing fun hands-on, engaging activities that connect families with trees.

Exploratree tries to encourage self-discovery, curiosity and spontaneity. So why not come and take an inspirational journey through the roots, trunk, branches, leaves, flowers and seeds of our trees?

Natural Play trail

Discover the different play zones hidden amongst the trees of the Old Arboretum and Silk Wood; designed with children aged 5-11 in mind.

In the Old Arboretum, children can build explorers' dens, balance and clamber over fallen logs, skip along log pathways, plan expeditions in a tree fort and find the mystical troll bridge.

Over in Silk Wood, clamber over a series of giant logs, carved and positioned to look like a mass of tree roots erupting from the ground.
