Assynt House, Highlands

Assynt House, Evanton, Dingwall, Highland

Assynt House is a luxury holiday home nestled in the Ross-shire countryside, the perfect location to explore the Highlands of Scotland. Dating back to the 1700s the house has been lovingly restored, retaining heaps of original features.

However, a big selling point is the provision of luxury hotel standards with the relaxed informal atmosphere of a holiday home. Decorated in a classic style with a mixture of modern and antique furnishings the house manages to combine old and new seamlessly - and yes the kids are welcome.

Getting back to the hotel theme - thanks to your thoughtful hosts you are able to enjoy the luxury of a daily housekeeper; I love having my bed made, I love even more having the children's beds made to a standard that I approve of! You then might decide to indulge in a part, or even fully catered stay, enjoying hassle-free evenings or special occasions when the cooking and all the work before and afterwards is taken care of. How lovely - even designated cooks get a break.

With seven en-suite bedrooms you are guaranteed privacy. There is no such thing as a master suite here - all rooms are individually decorated and retain their own charm - all have master suite proportions. Four rooms, the smallest being a king-size, are decorated traditionally and are located on the first floor. Two may be made up as twin rooms. Three others on the lower ground are more contemporary and offer under floor heating - again two can become twin rooms, rather than double, if required. All are gorgeously spacious and tastefully decorated, and have fabulous bathrooms, whatever the style.

There are a further four fold-away beds available which are suitable for young children, along with two cots; there really can be no excuse for someone not being able to make it.

All towels and bedding is supplied, as well as cosy dressing gowns, hair-dryers and "Highland Aromatics" toiletries to enjoy during your stay.

With regards to the catering you really are free to make the choice. Catered food is prepared using fresh local produce; sample menus are available to tempt you. Menus include vegetarian options and children's meals. Full Scottish breakfasts, as well as packed lunches, can also be prepared, or even a one-pot simmering on the Aga for your return home!

Alternatively the kitchen has everything you might need to rustle up the most salubrious of meals or simple beans on toast. Should you wish you may request that some food be waiting for you in order to avoid that mad dash around the shops after arrival!

Early risers might stroll around the grounds partaking of the crisp fresh air and enjoy the Scottish countryside, while the lucky devils without babies might even get a lie-in given your lovely secluded and quiet surroundings.
Graham & Elizabeth Waugh live on-site and are happy to advise about Days Out and help arrange activities to suit all tastes - there are heaps of things to do - have fun drawing up your itinerary.

Wi-fi is available in areas.  Baby-sitting can be arranged.

Assynt House really does offer an escape - do let us know how you get on.
