Ballinacourty House Caravan & Camping Park, Co. Tipperary
Ballinacourty, Glen of Aherlow
What an idyllic spot! Ballinacourty House Caravan and Camping Park is located in a beautiful rural location in Co. Tipperary with wonderful open views of the Galtee Mountains, Ireland's largest inland mountain range, but protected from the elements by old stonewalls. It's situated in The Glen of Aherlow which is one of Tipperary's most attractive and scenic holiday destinations. The Glen is a lush valley where the River Aherlow runs between the Galtee Mountains and the wooded ridge of Slievenamuck - now doesn't that sound like the perfect place to get back to nature?
Now, down to the practicalities. The park welcome tents, caravans and motorhomes (up to 8m in length) but as the camping park is strictly touring there are no mobile homes in the park. Facilities include a 6-amp electric hookup, washrooms and showers with FREE hot water including a baby change and bath; a kitchen with gas cooking hob, microwave, kettle, fridge, freezer and wash-up area and a laundry room with ironing facilities. There's also a recycling point (glass, cans, paper and plastic packaging) and a chemical disposal system, and the site can provide ice pack freezing.
On the entertainment side, on-site there's a children's playground, a hard tennis court and a brand-new mini-golf course. There's also an animal enclosure where the kids can get up close and personal with the animals (supervised petting so they don't squeeze the baa-lambs too tight!). There's a small seasonal shop which can provide all the essentials such as Camping Gaz. And for when you've packed enough nature and outdoor adventure in as you possibly can, there's a television and games room. This should be enough to keep everyone happy!
After all that activity, if you don't feel like cooking over your camping stove you can relax in the site's delightful restaurant and let the resident chefs prepare your evening meal. With a reputation for fine steaks, an extensive wine list, friendly service and great value for money it is a very popular venue for both locals and guests, and can cater for large groups and parties.
The Glen of Aherlow is a beautiful nature park providing opportunities for walking and hiking, horse riding and cycling and maps are available at Ballinacourty. A series of walking trails suitable for families are dotted around the nature park and it's the perfect place to explore, stopping for a picnic lunch. Within the Glen the focal point is the Statue of Christ the King. Erected in 1950, the statue overlooks the valley at its most scenic viewpoint and has his hand raised in "blessing the Glen and all who pass by".
There's plenty of activities nearby, with three golf courses, Limerick Junction Horse Racing, a leisure centre with swimming pool, a cinema and a theatre. Ballinacourty House Caravan and Camping Park is just 25kms from the Rock of Cashel, a spectacular group of Medieval buildings set on an outcrop of limestone. There's also Cahir Castle and Bunratty Castle and Folk Park a short drive away.
