Child Friendly Cottages
The 5 star graded Elizabethan Farmhouse has 4 bedrooms and can sleep a family of 8 plus cot in style and comfort. This lovely grade II listed Farmhouse, being over 400 years old, is rich with historical features such as the Jacobean court cupboard, oak panelling, oak beams, oak floorboards and flag stone floors. Outside you can bask in the morning sun in your own private walled country garden with southerly aspect and glorious views.
The other six holiday cottages have been sympathetically restored to cottages with bags of charm, quality and character; the smallest sleeping two plus cot and the largest can sleep 8. Graded 4 star and 5 star, they have many home from home comforts including satellite television with all sports, movies and children's channels as well as Wi-Fi access, lots of books and games for all ages. Things to do and Family Days Out in Cumbria
You may not know it but a stay at Bridge End Farm Cottages means you are within striking distance of the highest, deepest, steepest and oldest! Within walking distance is Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain; dramatic Wastwater, its deepest lake (and recently voted Britain's Best View); Hardknott Pass, its steepest road (probably not the best route to take with a fully loaded up car!); and Boot Mill, its oldest working water mill.
There is plenty to see and do close by for all ages. Lovely sandy beaches (20 minutes drive), 2 golf courses, climbing, canoeing, pony trekking, local bike hire and the Eskdale cycleway, fishing, country houses, castles, gardens, waterfalls, Roman ruins, Neolithic stone circles and many majestic landscapes to paint. If you prefer touring, all the main lakes can be reached by car, as can the cathedral city of Carlisle, Georgian Whitehaven and delightful market towns of Cockermouth, Keswick and Ulverston.
Take a dip in the crystal clear River Esk (see photo). Or for the more brave of you, perhaps a swim in the plunge pool of the waterfall in the village? Another waterfall, Stanley Force, often described as ‘Lakeland's Loveliest' is also only a short walk from Boot. The local Ravenglass and Eskdale narrow gauge steam railway is one of England's prettiest train journeys and is a must for any young Thomas the Tank Engine fans.
