About Bridge End Farm - Luxury Lake District Cottages
Stay in a stunning part of the Lake District - the glorious Eskdale Valley. Once a working farm the award winning Bridge End Farm has 7 beautifully restored family holiday cottages (smallest sleeps 2, largest sleeps 9) that date back to the 17th century. Located in the delightful village of Boot, there is stunning Lake District scenery all around and many of England's best walks on the doorstep. Hear the toot of the local Ravenglass and Eskdale narrow gauge steam railway as it passes nearby. There’s plenty to see and do close by for all ages including the enchanting Muncaster Castle with World Owl Centre and lovely sandy beaches are a 20 minutes drive away.
Bridge End Farm Cottages have been featured on TV as one of the best places to stay in the Lake District and nestling beneath mighty Scafell, a stay here is certainly going to be a memorable one.
An idyllic setting in the picturesque village of Boot down a quaint cobbled lane beside a beautiful 17th Century packhorse bridge over the tumbling Whillan Beck. You can certainly see that the location is absolutely stunning! And the cottages also benefit from beautiful grounds - 3 garden areas including a secret walled garden, and a large riverside paddock with picnic spot. Barbecues and garden furniture are provided for families to enjoy the great outdoors in style.
Child Friendly Cottages
The 5 star graded Elizabethan Farmhouse has 4 bedrooms and can sleep a family of 8 plus cot in style and comfort. This lovely grade II listed Farmhouse, being over 400 years old, is rich with historical features such as the Jacobean court cupboard, oak panelling, oak beams, oak floorboards and flag stone floors. Outside you can bask in the morning sun in your own private walled country garden with southerly aspect and glorious views.
The other six holiday cottages have been sympathetically restored to cottages with bags of charm, quality and character; the smallest sleeping two plus cot and the largest can sleep 8. Graded 4 star and 5 star, they have many home from home comforts including satellite television with all sports, movies and children's channels as well as Wi-Fi access, lots of books and games for all ages. You will find all cottages are cosy whatever the season as they are all fully central heated with double glazing throughout. Luxurious powerful showers are fantastic to come home to after a day of full on sightseeing exertions. If you need cots and highchairs please request them when booking and they'll be set up ready for your arrival.
Once you arrive at your cottage you can expect a welcome tray with tea, coffee, homemade biscuits and fresh milk in the fridge. An additional welcome hamper is available to pre-order with vegetarian and Cumbrian options with sausages from the Queen's appointed Cumberland sausage supplier.
Things to do and Family Days Out in Cumbria
You may not know it but a stay at Bridge End Farm Cottages means you are within striking distance of the highest, deepest, steepest and oldest! Within walking distance is Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain; dramatic Wastwater, its deepest lake (and recently voted Britain's Best View); Hardknott Pass, its steepest road (probably not the best route to take with a fully loaded up car!); and Boot Mill, its oldest working water mill.
There is plenty to see and do close by for all ages. Lovely sandy beaches (20 minutes drive), 2 golf courses, climbing, canoeing, pony trekking, local bike hire and the Eskdale cycleway, fishing, country houses, castles, gardens, waterfalls, Roman ruins, Neolithic stone circles and many majestic landscapes to paint. If you prefer touring, all the main lakes can be reached by car, as can the cathedral city of Carlisle, Georgian Whitehaven and delightful market towns of Cockermouth, Keswick and Ulverston.
Take a dip in the crystal clear River Esk (see photo). Or for the more brave of you, perhaps a swim in the plunge pool of the waterfall in the village? Another waterfall, Stanley Force, often described as ‘Lakeland's Loveliest' is also only a short walk from Boot. The local Ravenglass and Eskdale narrow gauge steam railway is one of England's prettiest train journeys and is a must for any young Thomas the Tank Engine fans.
With stunning views hard to beat and a location that is idyllic, Bridge End Farm Cottages are perfect to get away from it all and re-charge those batteries. The 7 cottages booked together can accommodate over 30 guests which makes it perfect for large family reunions. Short breaks may be available in low season.
