Cosy Under Canvas

Child friendly glamping, Powys – Glamping in Wales, Dolbedwyn, Kington, Powys on the Welsh/English Borders

About Cosy Under Canvas

Fancy camping under the stars without the hassle of a carload full of camping equipment and no space to squeeze the kids? Cosy Under Canvas has the perfect solution. Picture your family enjoying a night under the stars in these eco friendly bell tent and domes. Each unit can sleep a family of 4, the domes an extra 2 if required and is decked out with comfortable futons topped with traditional welsh blankets, throws and sheepskins. Sumptuous duvets and crisp cotton bedding can be provided for a small extra charge together with welcome hampers. A travel cot and high chair can also be supplied. The Cosy Under Canvas glamping site is situated in four acres of beautiful woodland and water meadow in the heart of the Welsh/English borders countryside.

Cosy Under Canvas are open from 27th March 2015 until 16th October 2015. There are 5 domes, each have use of a wood fired hot tub for a small extra charge, and 2 bell tents to choose from.

The unique design of the five Geodomes is popular with guests. They create more space without internal supports than any other structure and are posh camping at it best with a comfy double bed and huge beanbags.

Each bell tent and dome, sits on a wooden platform and comfortably sleeps four adults, two on a double futon bed and two on roll out futon mattresses. The domes can sleep up to 6. The beds and futons are topped memory foam toppers plus luxurious, contemporary welsh blankets, cushions and throws and the floors are covered in rugs and sheepskins.

To complete the cosy camping experience all units have a stylish wood burning stove that can be stoked up to keep you toasty over night. Getting back to basics and lighting a campfire is positively encouraged and you can cook on it or in the embers, have a BBQ or knock yourself something up on the camping stove in the shared deck kitchen.

All the essentials are thoughtfully provided to make a well earned cup of tea on arrival. Well behaved dogs, with their own beds are welcome by prior arrangement.

Easy Peasy for Families

Let me suggest taking advantage of a handy extra service and pre order your cool box to be stocked with groceries including locally sourced seasonal fruit and vegetables, our fresh eggs, organic milk. It saves a dash to the shops after a long journey.

The kitchen is equipped with traditional enamel crockery, pots, pans, cutlery and cooking utensils, a cool box and storage box for dried food. Fresh cold spring water is provided from a tap in the kitchen and washroom for drinking, washing, washing up and cooking.

Cosy under Canvas keeps their impact on the environment to a minimum. There are compost loos and washrooms in the woods, plus eco, wood fired showers with a canopy view. Alternatively use the new washroom and biomass boiler heated power showers.

For the Kids

Send the kids off scouting for fallen twigs. Toasting marshmallows on your own camp fire tastes all the better if you have sourced the wood - trust me I know!  A small basket of colouring pencils can be borrowed for the kids to use and a useful supply of games.

Stay local

In the woods there is the beginning of a willow tipi, a bracken den for anyone to add to as they wish, a recycled tyre horse swing for hours of fun, a rope ladder and explore the water meadow area with a shallow stream to paddle in and a bridge for pooh sticks. Or just laze in the hammocks to absorb the peace, quiet and scenery the site has to offer.
Stray away - enjoy pottering round the market towns of Hay on Wye or Kington, meander the surrounding countryside and network of footpaths and bridleways, stride a section of the Offa's Dyke Path, or visit the spectacular Brecon Beacons National Park.

For more adventure

Why not try a mountain bike ride, a family kayak trip along the River Wye, an exciting gorge challenge or pony trekking with spectacular mountain views.

Whatever you choose to do with your day, when you return to your dome or bell tent, you can pour yourself a drink, light a roaring fire and enjoy a slower pace of life - an alternative break away from the trappings of a hectic life.
