Courtyard Cottages, Upper Court, Gloucestershire
Upper Court, Kemerton, Gloucestershire
Courtyard Cottages at Upper Court, Gloucestershire, are a perfectly cosy, rustic, English retreat. The well-cared for grounds are delightful, there's a swimming pool, and cottages can either be booked together by a big party, or booked individually for a small family break.
Accommodation:
With a little vase of colourful sweetpeas on the kitchen table for our arrival, we knew we'd enjoy staying in the cottage and we absolutely did. We stayed in Dovecote, a perfect cute place to stay for a couple with a baby, but there are numerous other cottages for parties of differing sizes. I loved Dovecote because it was set over three floors, with the bathroom at the top, the bedroom in the middle, and the kitchen/dining room/living area on the ground floor. We adored our four poster bed and the quirky mix of furniture around the cottage, all pulled together with floral, country cottage décor. Toiletries are provided in the bathroom, but do bring your own bits and bobs too, such as bubble bath, to make the most of the fab standalone bathtub.
Food:
The cottages have well-equipped kitchens with everything you'd expect, so bring food with you and enjoy cosy nights in cooking. I loved having breakfast in the morning with the door to Dovecote open, letting the sunshine stream in and taking in the view of the lake. In the summer, there's a little table out there for you to enjoy meals outside.
Upper Court provide a comprehensive list of nearby pubs and restaurants for you to sample during your stay, should you so wish.
Activities and Nearby Attractions:
It's great having the little swimming pool on-site for the little ones to have an energetic splash around.
The Cotswolds is full of family-friendly attractions, with plenty to do just a short drive away. Adam Henson's Cotswold Farm Park is around an hour's drive and is a fun and exhilarating day out - we visited on our way home and had a brilliant time. The picturesque city of Stratford-on-Avon is a forty-five minute drive for lots of entertainment options, from restaurants to boat trips to theatre. Also nearby is the Cotswold Wildlife Park, the Cotswold Water Park, and Westonbirt Arboretum. And there are numerous fun walks and cycle routes.
Child Friendly Facilities and Extras:
There are various children's books provided in the cottages for those chilled-out moments indoors. There's also plenty of room, both in the cottages and outdoors. The outdoor area provides a great space to go on walks or play games, and there's the swimming pool too.
Final thoughts:
It was such a sweet trip away for us and we could have happily stayed longer, just enjoying the peace and quiet, and the easygoing way of life in the cottage. Whether you're a couple, small group, or large group, we definitely recommend you including Upper Court in your shortlist for a fab, family-friendly break in beautiful surroundings.
