Drovers rest is a magical place for both glamping and non camping fans near to the market town Hay-on-Wye. With five luxury safari tents, two picture perfect cottages and a funky, spacious communual barn the owners here are on to a winner. Surrounded by beautiful countryside that makes you want to "climb every mountain" - it's decadent, exciting, baby friendly and dog friendly too. Not forgetting you’re on a farm with plenty to keep the whole family occupied. Kids & adults can help feed the animals, pick apples, make cider, work in the veg garden, groom the ponies, play with the lambs. Should parents opt for time out then you can order the delicious farmers breakfast on offer daily or there's family dinners made three times a week from fresh farm produce. What's not to love about this place!
This gem of a place, near the Welsh borders, is an idyllic break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life where families will have oodles of fun on a relaxed carefree farm holiday. Cool campers will revel in the glamping tents and for those who feel the need to stay in something more substantial the renovated cottages are perfect for grandparents who don’t want to miss out on the family fun. You can snuggle and hunker down in your own space but the beauty of Drovers Rest is when you want everyone to come together in the spacious communal barn.
Off the beaten track nestled in the foothills of the black mountains yet just 2 miles from the popular town of Hay on Wye this really is the ultimate family getaway. With awe-inspiring views, enjoy the simplicity of being close to nature in comfort and style. Take a stroll through the countryside, splash in the stream and read a book whilst taking in the beautiful surroundings. With daily farm activities and a plethora of things to do there is never going to be a dull moment.
The owners, Kesri and Paul decided after having their two children and juggling hectic lives that they needed to re-address the balance of family life and with a vision for Llan y Coed a working sheep farm - Drovers Rest was created. And now you can experience your own slice of family friendly heaven. With over 200 acres of wild flower meadows, bluebell woodlands, sheep grazed farmland, a nature reserve and a gorgeous apple orchard to explore there’s lots to see and do. You can meet the menagerie of farm animals, groom the ponies, play with the lambs, milk the goats and help find freshly laid eggs for breakfast. There’s bags of space for ball games and the nearby woodlands is the perfect spot for a bit of den building.
Glamping, Posh Camping, Safari Tents
Forget packing all the camping paraphernalia you own, cramming the car with all your worldly goods, arriving in the dark and struggling to put up the tent. Instead, stay in a Drovers Tent – a luxury safari tent that is kitted out with everything you may need for your arrival. Five safari tents are raised on stilts in a gently sloping wildflower meadow to get the best out of those awesome views. You will sleep soundly on beds with real mattresses and duvets, cosy up in front of the wood burning stove with snuggly Welsh blankets, conjure up culinary delights on your outside gas stove or be indulgent and let Kesri deliver you her special healthy breakfast. Each tent has 2 bedrooms with proper beds, an open plan lounge, a kitchen and dining area with a wood-burner, gas stove and fridge, and outdoor furniture on the deck.
Each tent has it’s own designated hot shower and flushing loo in an under floor heated stable block, just a couple of minutes’ walk from the tents, so no queuing necessary. Torches are provided for night-time trips.
Campers have the added bonus of relaxing in the spacious and funky communal barn. The Hayloft is a great place for all the crew to chill out together - it has free Wi-Fi, sky TV, a library, wii, games, a lounge and dining area, the all important fully stocked honesty bar, fire-place, farm shop & cake!
The holiday cottages
The holiday cottages have been recently renovated to a high standard in keeping with the fabric of the building (beams, slit windows, large windowsills, stonework etc). Both cottages have 2 bedrooms, sleeping a family of 4 and are dog friendly. You will enjoy a few creature comforts in the cottage too - egyptian cotton bedding and towels, Welsh blankets made specially by a local mill, cosy woodburners, underfloor heating, huge kitchen diner, cosy lounge with flat screen TV and sky plus, lots of books. A welcome basket is provided with some goodies including fresh eggs from the farm. You will have your own stone walled garden, woodland with bluebells and a stream, orchard and paddock for the week. Not forgetting those breathtaking views of the majestic Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons direct from every window. It’s simply blissful!
The owners offer daily farm breakfasts and communal dinners three times a week made from fresh farm produce (Pizza Night, Curry Night, BBQ night)
