About Fallow Fields Camping
Fallow Fields Camping in Kent is a camping and glamping experience that pops up in the summer months and offers families a whole new take on the posh camping phenomenon. This is the first site that Lex and Louise have developed. Based on their love for camping with their own family they have set out to provide an experience so that first timers want to come back and regular campers wonder why the heck everyone else isn’t doing things the same way!
Two miles from Sandwich (the best name for a town ever) Fallow Fields Kent sits amidst a dreamy four acres of fallow land, with apple, cherry and pear trees, a communal retreat area to escape to, have a cuppa and maybe play a board game, a shop stocked with local goodies and camping essentials, has fire pits to hire with fire wood to buy and local food vans that appear over the weekend so that you can have your Friday/Saturday night take out!
Yes, you have wonderful, pre-erected gorgeous canvas. Yes, you have brilliantly sized camping pitches for those of you who love camping for all of its traditional merits. And yes, you can mix and match! Enjoy brilliant facilities, an easy atmosphere and space for all so that the kids can enjoy what us adults (I) miss – freedom to be, to get really mucky (feral my sister calls our kids on camping expeditions), to be joyfully independent – it’s priceless.
The site has 40 tent pitches and 10 furnished bell tents. Additional guests can be accommodated but you have to check it out with Louise first and they must bring their own bed linen.
Bell Tents: perfect for those who are unsure about camping, or who’d like the treat of everything being ready for you, the carpeted bell tents each sleep four and are complete with a comfy double bed made up for your arrival, two futon beds that double up as singles with bedding also available, bedside tables and a camping light. Bunting and fairy lights complete the whole glamping ambience. Bring your own camping stove and cooking equipment, chairs and anything else you love to have around.
Camping Pitches: if you have everything at the ready in pre-packed labelled boxes and love camping (like us) Fallow Fields offers four acres of flat land, pitches surrounded and sheltered by fruit trees and lots of space to spread out. You also have the option to pitch along from your friends or family that opted for a glamping experience – there’s no fenced off elitism here!
Shower block and toilets are spotless. There is a small permanent toilet block with two loos and five good quality mobile toilets along with six showers. Four washing up sinks are available and four sinks for washing/tooth brushing. As mentioned camp fires are allowed – they must be off the ground in fire pits which are available to hire. Please note wood must not be collected from the farm but should be purchased from the shop.
Ice block freezing is available to keep those cool boxes effective for longer than, in our case, a few hours.
Getting out and about
If you fancy heading off the farm, just a short walk from the campsite gate & through farm land leads you to public footpaths that disappear across the fields in the direction of Ash or Woodnesborough. You don’t need to travel much further afield to take in the best of what the local area has to offer:
For adventurers head to the 11th century Dover Castle and explore the fortress for the day. Sandwch is an idyllic medieval town on the river Stour and is a brilliant place to spend a few hours browsing – or having lunch. Deal Pier is a must from which you can get the kids to try to spot France whilst taking lunch in the restaurant there.
For beaches Sandwich Bay is pebbled with salt marshs, sand flats and dunes to roam. Broadstairs and Ramsgate are the nearest sandy beaches.
