Child Friendly Holiday Cottages in Carmarthenshire, Wales
Nestled in an area of outstanding beauty Glynhir Estate, dating back to the 18th century, is a delightful haven for families and friends of all ages to be able to enjoy precious, relaxed times together. It is an utterly charming and serene place with stunning walks though the grounds culminating at a cascading waterfall, with perfect stop offs on the way for Pooh sticks. Featuring a walled orchard, a cobbled duck pond, sweeping landscape gardens and free-roaming ducks and peacocks its easy to see what attracts Glynhir's guests to return again and again for it's idyllic loveable charm.
Glynhir Estate offers both bed & breakfast and half board in the Mansion House as well as self-catering in one of the 6 sympathetically restored cottages.
The Holiday Cottages
Grouped around the farmyard with its peacocks, ducks, geese and chickens are the barns, stables and Estate cottages, which are now converted into self-catering holiday cottages. The six cottages all have three bedrooms and each retain much of their aged charm and are quirky and full of character. They are comfortably furnished and equipped to a high standard, with ample crockery and cooking utensils. All have oil central heating. Fuel and electricity are included in the price together with wood for the stoves, bedding, bed linen and tea-towels. Alternatively the kids might choose to go hunting for firewood from the woods.
The largest and oldest of the cottages is The Old Bailiffs House, which can accommodate a family of 8, was once the home of the farm bailiff and his family as well as being the dairy. Facing the farmyard, it retains its original character, with stone flagged floors, woodstove and a wealth of oak beams.
Location and surrounding area
Nearby, the local market town of Ammanford has all you would need including many good restaurants. Within a short drive there is a huge choice of things to do - from fishing the famous Towy or the Llwchwr, to playing golf next door at Glynhir Golf Club, to horse riding at the local stables or walking one of the routes short or long across the fabulous rolling countryside. And of the many places to see and visit, to mention but a few that our garden county boasts, mystical castles, golden beaches, historic gardens, the Brecon Beacons National Park, wildlife and fowl parks as well as several thriving market towns, all just a short drive away. Swansea is also only half an hour away where there is a fantastic water park/ swimming centre.
Lasting impression
The Glynhir Estate is ideally placed to explore beautiful Carmarthenshire. However you may find you just want to stay put and revel in the rare opportunity to wind down. The joy of this place is the space to enjoy simple pleasures; be they wandering around freely enjoying the fresh air, playing football or chase, exploring trails through the woodland and making impromptu dens.

Glynhir is somewhat like the land that time forgot. As a family we have been going here for over ten years. Set in wonderfully picturesque countryside and close to child friendly activities, there is always something to do come rain or shine.
The children vanish for the day to explore the grounds (walled orchard garden/waterfall/river) while the parents idle away the time. The wood shed caters for the cottages needs of an evening, and the sense of home from home is ever present.
In the surrounding area there are castles to explore and with coast less than an hour away come rain or shine Glynhir doesn't disappoint.
The children look forward to going back from the day we leave, which is a testament to the place. We love it, thank you for providing such a great place to get away from it all!

Glynhir is set in a beautiful location with lots of character and charm. We stayed as a family of 4 & were well catered for with cots etc. Our 2 year old was absolutely enthralled with all the farm animals and peacocks roaming about.
We are self confessed foodies and were so pleased to see so many organic fruit and vegetables used in the cooking - and the breakfast is gorgeous!
The rooms were immaculate and very stylishly decorated. We were able to do lots of exploring of the surrounding area and there were lots of beautiful walks and days out we could enjoy - particularly the botanic gardens and the nearby town of Llandeilo.
We would definitely stay there again!

The first time we went we stayed here we were in the rambling, main house with its high ceilings, fireplaces and gracious stair case. Our three year old loved the pigs, ducks and peacocks, and we loved the organic produce and home made marmalade and tales of the history of this amazing spot. The waterfall is magnificent! On another visit we stayed in one of the charming self-catering, converted farm buildings which look like a film set. Both times we loved it. This welcoming, family-run idyll is set in rolling, green glorious countryside perfect for walking, riding and touring or just kicking back and marveling at your good luck at having discovered it.

Glynhir is one of those places where time (and kids) seem to disappear. With acres of land to explore, walled gardens, woods & a waterfall you rarely need to leave the place but if the urge takes there's a wealth of castles, beaches and some of the best attractions south Wales have to offer, all within a short drive.
We have visited the estate several times now and often go with other families but generally take separate cottages to allow for a bit of undisturbed down time by the fire and a chance for the kids to calm down! All cottages are comfortable with unique features and rustic charm - discover your favourite!
If you love an active lifestyle or simply a safe environment for the kids to roam, you have got to give this place a try!

We always come to stay here every year. I came as a child and we now bring our kids. It is a perfect place for families with kids of all ages. There are lots of things to do near by, but best of all , we like to stay on the Estate and relax while the children explore and make friends.
