Harvest Moon Holidays, East Lothian
Lochhouses Farm, Tyninghame, East Lothian
There can be no better location than a holiday at Lochhouses Farm on the coast of East Lothian, Scotland and just a 30 minute drive from the capital city of Edinburgh. The luxurious Safari tents are spacious, stylish, comfortable and well equipped; containing everything you could possible need for a family camping holiday right down to the kitchen sink.
The children will love the resident farm animals just outside the tents, especially the bunnies, baby lambs in spring, as well as chickens, duck and ponies. Little ones can help feed the animals and even search for any freshly laid eggs to have them cooked for their breakfast. And when the novelty of the animals wears off, just on the other side of the nearby dunes is a most stunning sandy beach that looks across to nearby Bass Rock. Many hours can be whiled away just chilling on the beach, looking for buried treasure among the rock pools, building sand sculptures or sticking on your welly boots and frolicking in the waves.
It is certainly a great place for kids as the safari tents all look onto a field where youngsters can play in safety and you can keep a watchful eye on them at the same time. As well as the wide open space for kids to play and run around there's also a small tree-house. Beach games and toys can be found in the 'abandoned pirate boat' which doubles up as an honesty shop stocking basic necessities such as candles, fresh milk and firelighters.
The Luxury Safari Tents
The huge safari tents contain two bedrooms, a double in one and bunk beds and a unique pull down bed in a 'cupboard' for youngsters in the other. In addition to the bedrooms there is a sofa bed in the lounge area that can accommodate a further 2 guests which in total sleeps a family of 8. There is an efficient wood burning stove which takes about 20mins to start pumping out the heat and once going it makes the tents very cosy together with running water. A shower and a toilet are located behind the tent on the covered back porch so that you don't have far to go when little ones demand a trip in the middle of the night. There is no electricity so it is very romantic sitting in candlelight enjoying a glass of wine while watching the sun set. As well as a decently equipped kitchen and the stove, there are also tripod cooking pans so you can cook over the fire outside if you want.
The friendly site manager, Petra, is on hand everyday to drop off ice blocks for the cool boxes. She is a wealth of information and is there to make sure your holiday runs smoothly. There are bikes for hire at the farm to explore the fabulous countryside. These can be rented for £5 per day and £3 for a child seat. Pony Treks are available at the farm next door (Children : £25 per hour Adults: £30 per hr).
