Kessingland Family Camping & Caravanning Holidays, Suffolk

Whites Lane, Kessingland, Nr Lowestoft, Suffolk

We are delighted to offer 50 family and child friendly campsites - specifically selected for us by the Camping and Caravanning Club. Explore Suffolk's beaches and the Norfolk Broads from this family campsite in Kessingland, open from 1st April - 31st October 2011.

Arriving at Kessingland Camping & Caravanning Site I thought we had taken the wrong turning as we actually turned off the road as if to visit Africa Alive. But as my chef navigator informed me it was the correct place, as the access road is shared by both places and we arrived at the campsite on the left.

The site is split into two, with fields on either side of the entrance. The well maintained grounds sectioned off by hedges and trees gave a pleasant outlook. There is a small kid's play area at the far end of the site with two swings and a climbing frame with slide and was ample distraction for Alfie(3). The play areas floor is covered with safety bark.

The toilet block is well looked after with spotless roomy showers and plenty of hot water. There are also two family rooms which have a shower, toilet sink, baby bath, a chair and lots of space in which parent and kids can get changed together. If the family rooms were kept unlocked everyone would want to use them so families pay a £5 deposit and gain access by a key. A big laundry room is on-site with washer, dryer and sinks for hand washing as well as iron with board and rotary lines outside.

The reception sold basic, but essential provisions including locally-produced free-range eggs, bacon and sausages. For a larger range of groceries there are ample local supermarkets close by, with Morrisons being only around 10 minutes by car. A fish and chip van comes on site on a Friday for anyone that fancies a break from chef duty.

Your pitch will be available after noon on your arrival day and you will need to vacate it before noon on your last days stay.

Things to do with Kids and Family Days Out in Suffolk

Kessingland beach is only 1.5 miles away from the site so it's very easy to walk to.  Although it's not suitable for bathing being mostly shingle and shelves very steeply into the sea, you may spot seals often seen on the sand banks. Other great coastal towns to visit are Lowestoft, Southwold , Aldeburgh and Great Yarmouth a traditional seaside town with a funfair, long sandy beach, and promenade.

Africa Alive, a wildlife park, is next to the Site. It makes a great family day out, with lions, giraffes and rhinos. Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens has a great tiger compound and a treetop walk to view the animals. Pleasure Wood Hills theme park has over 30 attractions, including roller coasters and a miniature railway. Bewilderwood claims to be the UK's first environmentally-friendly adventure park. Dinosaur Adventure makes a good family day out, with fossil digs, a scavenger hunt and secret animal garden.

Bressingham is home to the Bressingham Gardens with over 8,000 species of flora and fauna on display. The Bressingham Collections includes four railways, a Victorian steam carousel and the National Dad's Army collection.

Oulton Broad is the southern gateway to the Broads National Park and is a great starting point in which to hire a boat and enjoy the Norfolk Broads.
