About La Radicata, Child Friendly Villa in Tuscany
Tuscany is a stunning area of Italy – La Villa Radicata, a 5 bedroom, 4 bath villa provides a tranquil, relaxed and decadent place in which to enjoy it. La Radicata is surrounded by 3 acres of private gardens and enjoys superb views of Lake Montedoglio and the Upper Tiber. Sleeping up to ten guests it provides a wonderful laid back venue for a gathering of friends and family of all ages. The Villa has been symphatetically restored maintaining not only the original features but the character of the place and without compromise - all modern comforts are available as is lots of child-friendly paraphenalia, an outside pool, paddling pool, slide, mountain bikes, outside pizza oven and plenty of toys. Perfect!
Mike and Rita Kobrak fell in love with Villa Radicata, a large attractive stone farmhouse, and thus lovingly restored it to the glory that you can now enjoy. From the tiny hamlet of Caroni San Cristoforo a one kilometre cement road winds up and along the hillside of Picco Castagno (Chestnut Peak) to Villa Radicata. You might also fall in love with the place given it's relaxed air and the space to just be, both indoors and out.
There's a courtyard, a pergola with BBQ area - perfect for al fresco family feasts - your own wood-burning oven for bread and pizza for hours of baking frivolity, as well as a terrace and several patios to take time out. On the highest level, a fenced swimming pool offering beautiful open views awaits (12x5 m).
Past the side of the house a stone walkway leads around and past the old bread oven to the front of the house and the stone-paved dining terrace. Here the Pergola area provides a great outside dining area, as the Kobrak's suggest "imagine sipping your glass of Chianti surrounded by dancing butterflies over the lavender and rose bushes, while admiring the fabulous lake and mountain views. Below, in a private world, stone-walled terraced fields and hazelnut orchards lead down to wild grass and flower meadows with olive, cypress and walnut trees; where, almost unnoticed, hammocks hang lazily in the shade, and secluded tables and chairs are tucked away in groves of broom". Wish I was there now!
The 5 cots and 5 high chairs means that multiple births are covered (one hopes) and also makes this a perfect venue for Mummy and Baby weeks away. Stair gates are provided, the pool is reassuringly fenced, socket covers are available as is a potty, baby monitor, baby bath, slide and toys.
A Cook and maid service can be arranged at an additional charge as can baby sitting for a treat meal out.
Two large French doors open onto the patio to the front of the villa. The patio, covered by a pergola, provides a shady area for dining "al fresco". To the left of the patio is the wood oven and a stand alone BBQ. The The French doors give access to the dining room with it's large dining table seating 10,this area leads through to the kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with a hob, oven, large fridge/freezer and dishwasher. The washing machine lives in a large under stair cupboard.
Also on the ground floor is the "Il Giardino" (Garden) bedroom, perfect for perhaps grandparents, complete with a pretty iron double bed and stable doors with access to the kitchen patio and villa gardens. The bathroom has a spacious corner bath with a wall-mounted shower in the bath
A set of stone stairs leads from the hallway to the first and second floors. On the first floor there is a living room with stone fireplace and comfy sofas with Sky TV, DVD player and CDs for those important quiet times.
Off the living room there are two twin bedrooms and to the other side a bathroom with bath and wall mounted shower in the bath. To the rear of the house is the "Il Girasole" (Sunflower) en-suite bedroom with a pretty iron bed and en suite bathroom with a sunken bath, marble sink and wall mounted shower in the bath. "Il Girasole" has access to its own outside terrace with its own deckchairs and table and has direct access to the gardens.
The second floor holds the large " La Torre" (Tower) bedroom with a stunning four poster bed and fabulous large arched windows overlooking the garden - the bathroom has a large walk in shower and marble sink.
The local area, La Valtiberina, is attractively hilly with woods of chestnut trees and fields to bowl around in, hence the views. The wonderful combination of art, history and nature means you'll always have something to do be it cycling, horse-riding or taking an adventure walk. Tennis and horse-riding are close by.
The Villa is just 5 km from the village Caprese Michelangelo, where Michelangelo was born. It is close to a small local village with a convenient supermarket and pizzeria and is just 15 mins from Anghiari, a pretty hilltop town with a variety of shops. It is within easy reach of the larger town of San Sepolcro (20 mins).
Rita and Mike want you to enjoy your holiday and actively promote alternative uses of the Villa, such as providing cooking lessons, Yoga and Italian lessons, as well as offering guided tours. Do ask if there is something that you would like to do whilst you are there or perhaps suggest an activity week away with your friends - girlie week with the kids anyone?
The area is still largely uncommercialised so get there quickly.
