About Letoonia Resort - Fethiye
A fantastically child-friendly all-inclusive resort in Turkey. Outdoor pools, play areas, kids clubs, water slides, chill out areas - there is space enough to do or not do - just as you please. The fabulous restaurants and a huge open air bar make it an excellent social venue for parents too - there is tons to do for all the family - go! .
We'd never ‘done' all-inclusive before - I like the idea of being able to come and go as we please, sort the kids out as we need, make our own minds up about where we'd go and saw all-inclusive as too consuming. I was wrong and am happy to admit it. At Letoonia we did everything we wanted, any time we fancied with no thinking about what to cook, how to get there, how to keep the kids entertained - all was on tap - ALL on tap and all of us benefited greatly. Do read on...
Letoonia is an all-inclusive resort in Fethiye - about 50 minutes transfer time from Dalaman. The resort is found on a gorgeous peninsula with so much sea front you won't be treading on your neighbours. You'll find a myriad of water-sports to challenge you, a fine choice of restaurants to dine at and outdoor pools, outdoor games, a lovely spa, shops and tons of entertainment on offer. A fantastic novelty is the water taxi which is available if you wish to get across to Fethiye and have a mooch around the shops or very big local market - a fee is payable.
You will stay in either a hotel room or in a bungalow, located throughout the resort. Our traditionally furnished, very comfortable room easily slept Bob and I and the three girls with space to spare. Eve and Lottie were on the sofa bed - Aggie was purportedly on a put up full-size single bed though our king size bed was more than roomy enough for her to crash in without disturbing us. The shower was big enough for all three to wash hair together - always a bonus - I don't like pokey bathrooms. The balcony provided fresh, very hot air to sit out and enjoy. The air-conditioning in our room worked beautifully and ensured we all slept soundly despite, for us, ridiculously high temperatures.
The beauty of this place is that there is so much to do and other than a quick run for a change of clothes and a snooze when things just became too much, the room was pretty much redundant until close of day.
The restaurants are superb whether you decide to choose a fine dining experience in one of three a la carte restaurants, enjoy the buffet provided in either the Moonlight (stunning views across the bay) or enjoy the view at the Panorama Restaurant. Food is available seemingly throughout the entire day - and if it's not meal time you'll find a snack! The lovely open air 'centre' is a perfect place to meet up for early evening drinks before having a leisurely dinner. This is an extremely relaxed place - we tried all of the restaurants with the girls and were welcome in each - not only that food was brought quickly when we were in the 'formal' restaurants so that the children didn't get bored and could go and wander whilst we had a leisurely meal (Letoonia incidentally feels incredibly safe and is a gated resort).
What to Do
On site there is a host of opportunities to try something you like or have never done before. The girls were happy making friends at the pool, helping themselves to ‘Mocktails', chatting over a leisurely lunch, screeching down the water slides and building sandcastles, or else exerting themselves trying to peddle the pedalo! Classes are held for yoga, there are disco's for babies, kids clubs to get out of the sun, pool parties and to end the day a cabaret - really good fun for all the family though at 10pm it is a little late for the very young.
You must explore beyond the resort. Take the water-taxi across to the town on market day and enjoy a haggle for fake everything and anything and to die for Turkish Delight. The fresh fruit and veg is a sight worth seeing - the peaches were the best ever!
The Hotel's 12 Island Boat Trip
As mentioned Fethiye is a traditional market town nestling in a natural harbour - the town is protected by small islands off the shore. The hotel offers a gorgeous and luxurious boat trip around said islands with time aplenty to dive in the sea or sunbathe on the deck. There's a stop over whilst lunch is prepared - a la carte and particualrly delicious given there's nothing else to do but enjoy the cool breeze and scenery and decide what to eat up next!
Visit the nearby ancient sites, take a trek along Saklikent Gorge - it's the best place on a scorching day given the cool shade courtesy of the gorge's steep sides and very cool water. At the end you'll get showered with ice-cold glacier water - it's the most exhilarating feeling - and absobloomingfreezing! Do note Aggie managed the trek and the dousing and she's 4. We took lunch at a fabulous restaurant called Yaka Park where you are challenged to sit in freezing cold water for a time to earn your lunch, stroke the fish swimming in the bar and dine at a traditional table and eat 'til you are stuffed!
We LOVED it and just yesterday Eve said she wished she were back there. We had the best family time - I completely felt like I had had a true break for perhaps the first time since having the girls - just not having to think about food preparation was a joy! The hotel concierge team is exceptional and will help with all your planning - a stay here is a treat - in my opinion it is absolutely worth saving up for!
