Linskeldfield Holiday Cottages, Cumbria
Child Friendly Cottages, Cockermouth, Cumbria, Lake District
Linskeldfield Farm is based on a family run 'working farm' within the Lake District National Park, set in beautiful surroundings, with superb views across to Skiddaw and Binsey Fell.
The farm and cottages are located up a private lane, off a quiet country road and are set in their own 200 acres of land. This is a very quiet, peaceful rural area but only a few miles away from the local towns of Keswick and Cockermouth - both of which have a good selection of shops for food and other commodities. Staying on the farm, one of the many benefits is the never ending supply of freshly laid eggs for your breakfast supplied by one of the resident 18,000 free-range hens that roam in a secure, large enclosed designated area. The surrounding farmland is a tranquil haven for wild-life where you can get up close to nature, as the farm has its own beautiful Tarn with a large bird watching hide. Otters and kingfishers have also been sighted regularly.
The Holiday Cottages
The three cottages created within a converted barn have all been furbished to a very high standard and can sleep 2, 4 and 6 guests. All have outstanding views of the surrounding hills and open countryside and have free internet access available. Badgers Cottage sleeping 2 has excellent limited mobility access. These lovely 4 star cottages have been awarded by Visit England - pet friendly, walker friendly, cyclist friendly and children friendly!
There is a large grassed enclosed play area in front of the cottages which has football goal posts and a children's adventure playground with conveniently placed picnic table and benches dotted about for mums and dads to watch little ones from the sidelines. Age appropriate books and toys are available to use in your cottage(age up to 6yrs / age 6yrs plus) and a selection of children's DVDs are available to watch when you need quiet time.
A purpose built games room for the cottages has just been completed that includes pool table, darts board, games console etc.

Things for families to do and places to visit around Cockermouth
Being only a stone's throw from the Reivers Cycle Route this is the perfect base for those of you who would like to bring your bikes as there is secure lock-up facilities.
Keswick is only a few miles away and is the walking and climbing capital of the Lake District. Keswick also boasts a good selection of eateries. One of my families favorite picnic spots involves a buggy friendly walk around the Bassenthwaite Lake and takes you past beauty spots Friars Craig onto Strands Hag Bay. Head to Keswick Marina to ditch the car there and you can hire a rowing boat to enjoy the serenity out on the lake and feast your eyes on the view. After a long walk (or short) a good pit stop is the lakeside cafe that serves delicious tea and scones.
Trotters World of Animals is another firm family favorite and would advise anyone in the area to go and check it out. It is good value for money and entertains both old and young. You could easily spend the whole day there where handling of the animals is actively encouraged and you will be amazed at the bird flying displays.

Would thoroughly recommend a stay at Linskeldfield Farm. We stayed in Ospreys Nest and we were pleasantly surprised by the size, cleaniness and modern interior. The play park was a massive plus for our boys, with the added attraction of the hens, piglets and Highland cows. Out boys were ecstatic to be included in the daily egg collection. The cottage supplied all baby equipment, including stair gates, baby carriers, DVD's, toys, games etc. The newly added games room was excellent complete with juke box, Xbox 360, pool table and dart board. The owners have gone to a lot of trouble to make your holiday special and we had a great time.

We had a fantastic time here. The accomodation is clean, modern and cosy. Just enough for our family of 4. (we stayed in the otters pocket). The cooking facilites were really great. The views stunning. The complementary eggs, jam and homemade bread on arrival was very much appreciated. There is so much to do in the area. The kids enjoyed staying on the farm, looking for birds in the tarn and feeding the ponies and there were plenty of games and DVDs for the children to play with. Our highlight of the farm was when we got to have a turn at collecting hundreds of eggs with the farmers. Close by is an RSPB 'Osprey View Point' as well as many beautiful walks in the surrounding lakes area. I will be returning.
