Mansefield House, Argyll
Mansefield House, Arrochar, Loch Long, Argyll & Bute

Some things are just special. Like waking up in the morning
and looking out over a beautiful Scottish loch. When you stay at Mansefield
House, situated on the shores of Loch Long and the edge of The Loch Lomond and
Trossachs National Park, you can. This Victorian house has original and
historic charm but still manages to retain a sense of warmth and homeliness and
is a perfect location for an idyllic rural Scottish retreat with extended
family or friends.
From the moment you walk in you feel at home. The house is
large enough to accommodate up to 12 people comfortably; there are 5 bedrooms:
2 double en-suites (one with stunning loch views), a double family room with a
cot, another double and a twin bedroom with 2 extra guest beds. Linen and
towels are provided and beds are made up for your arrival.
Downstairs there’s a generous dining room which has a cosy
wood burning stove, perfect if you visit during the winter for those long
evenings chatting after dinner. The sitting room has fabulous view out over the
loch and is a great place to relax. The kitchen is fully equipped with
everything you could need - fridge, freezer, dishwasher - and has a large gas
range cooker to rustle up all those delicious meals and is big enough for
everyone to help! There's a fully equipped laundry room which doubles up as a
drying room in case you get caught in the notorious rain (in Scotland.. never!)
There's also a games room in case of the aforementioned wet days which houses a
variety of toys and games including a 6ft snooker table.
The house stands above the loch in beautiful, private,
mature gardens which lead down to the loch. Because of the house's elevated
position you have uninterrupted views of Loch Long and the Arrochar Alps from
either inside the house or the garden. There are loads of outdoor activities
pretty much on your doorstep such as walking, climbing, golf, mountain biking,
horse riding, fishing, sailing and various other water-sports.
If you're more the urban type then Glasgow is only 45 minutes away by car. There
are lots of lovely houses and gardens nearby to visit such as the beautiful
Inveraray Castle, or you could visit Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Hill House,
the glorious gardens of Argyll & Bute or the Glengoyne Whisky Distillery
from here. A unique feature of this property lies closer to home, literally
next door in fact. Owned and run by the landlords is Mansefield Pottery Studio
and Craft Gallery showcasing superb quality ceramics, jewellery, photography,
paintings, textiles and other traditional crafts. You can ask to watch the
potter at work and, if his time permits, you might be able to try your hand yourself.
With wee ones themselves, the owners Fiona and Tom want
families to truly enjoy their stay so you won’t find a catalogue show house full
of things just asking kids to break or damage. It’s a place you can relax in
and let the kids play, whether it’s in the games room or out in the garden
exploring where there’s an area fully enclosed smaller ones can play without
wandering off too far. Click through to their website above for much more
information.
There’s a lovely, welcoming air and feel to Mansefield which
is why it’s recommended by Away with the Kids.
