Pagel - Child Friendly Gites, France
South West France
Escape to a special place in South West France “Self Catering with a difference, centred on families with children”
For toddlers and older siblings ‘Pagel’ has a magical quality, like an enchanted forest, the five acres of beautiful grounds hide a new adventure around every corner from a huge wooden replica pirate ship and fort, to electric jeeps, trains, go-karts and tractors. For parents this means entertaining the brood is a breeze and, as a result, relaxation comes easily. When not sneaking off to play pirates, most sit on their private terraces or lounge by the pool happily watching their offspring make new friends.
Those with babies tend to gravitate to the specially created shaded play area and kiddie pool. In fact, the huge range of toys and equipment provided is so comprehensive it would be a challenge to find anything missing. Clearly, having three youngsters themselves means Pagel’s English owners, Lara and Mark, have a keen eye for what makes kids tick.
New for 2010 is Pagel's Indian village - a family sized wigwam and little tepees in the lower field with a totem pole. Sleeping bags and camp beds are available for camping under the stars with the kids in the large weather proof family wigwam.
Most families find it hard to leave Pagel itself, with so much available onsite. But for those who manage it, there’s a host of attractions within half an hours drive including the Animal PARK AT Gramat and the fabulous Castles at Castlenaud.
Accommodation is in a pretty stone granary, which has been converted into four self-contained gites, each with three bedrooms, and lovely self-contained two bedroom (a double and a triple) annexe to the main house, 'The Wine Growers House', which has its own pretty garden. Each of the 3-bedroom gites has a private terrace with rural views (spectacular sunsets from some) and all properties have interiors which blend comfort and practicality with rustic beauty thanks to their mix of original features and pretty wooden furnishings.
The new Indoor play barn provides a break from the sun and the heated saltwater pool means hours of fun.....
For the grownups there are English babysitters to allow you to visit the local fantastic restaurants and there is even a chef for the night service where a meal is brought to you in your gite...... no hassle quality grown up time after the little ones have gone to sleep.

Lara and Mark Bishop have created a truly unique and magical world at Pagel. The safe, enclosed grounds are packed full of play areas like the Indian Village, trampoline, 10 metre pirate ship and play barns, as well as the heated, salt-water pool. The beautiful grounds allow the freedom for imaginative play to unfold amongst the natural settings, with trees, meadows, butterflies and even some deer. Our daughter Maisie was utterly enthralled by the giant teddy bears and wooden teddy bear statues. The gites and Goldilocks Cabin are lovingly and tastefully fitted out and the amount of quality equipment for kids is truly astonishing. There's on-site pampering for adults too and the lovely nearby market town of Cahors to satisfy eating and shopping urges. This is a unique self catering experience, a home-from-home created with great care to provide everything you need for babies and toddlers - and I do mean everything, we only took one suitcase between three of us!
