Potash Barns, Suffolk
Potash Farm, The Street, Brundish, Woodbridge, Suffolk
Potash Barns are striking family holiday cottages bursting with charm and character. The stunning Suffolk coastline nearby together with a menagerie of farm animals and plenty of space for children to roam free provides the perfect backdrop for families wishing to discover a rural retreat with plenty to keep all ages happy.
The self catering accommodation in converted barns on a farm is found on an 8 acre smallholding in the sleepy hamlet of Brundish. Potash Barns are located 4 miles from the county town of Framingham and just 12 miles to the Suffolk beaches boasting the coastal gems Southwold, Thorpeness and Aldeburgh.
The owners Claire and David live on-site so there is always someone on-hand to ask for the best places to go and eat. They are well placed to advise families as they have three children of their own so are a valuable resource of local information. Potash Farm is no longer a working farm but has lots of animals that are the resident children's pets. Little ones can get to meet the 2 cats, 8 Pygmy goats, and 14 chickens and a goose called Becky. They are all friendly and as we bowled up Becky was proudly parading across the courtyard to greet us! Every morning kids and parents alike can help to find the freshly laid eggs and perhaps scurry off back to fry it up for breakfast. You can even join in with feeding the baby kids and lambs.
The Self Catering Holiday Accommodation
The Potash Barns complex consists of three tastefully converted Grade ll listed farm buildings finished to a high standard and rated as 4* holiday homes by the English Tourist Board. All barns are fully equipped with modern appliances, excellent range cookers and very comfortable furnishings. Each home sleeps 4 people comfortably and can adequately stretch to 6 people with the use of sofa beds, or cots for babies. The barns are bursting with charm and character befitting of a period property and feature exposed beams and stud work throughout. The decor compliments these historical features and provides a relaxing and homely environment.
The original barn was divided into Goat Willow Barn at one end, and Old Oak Barn at the other. It is worth mentioning the master bedroom in Old Oak Barn has a fantastic half glazed sky light which gives a superb view of the sky at night. In between both these barns is the Communal Hall, with a large wood burner in the fireplace. This area is for the shared use of all guests. Here you will find a good selection of puzzles, games, books, DVD's for your use or you can sit with a bottle of wine and relax in front of the wood burner.
To the north across the farm yard, the barn is faced by The Cart Lodge. This building was completely renovated, and provides very comfortable, single storey accommodation. Again this can sleep up to 6 people and features a Victorian roll top bath, beautiful elm wooden floors throughout the bedroom areas and a quality elm kitchen fully equipped and user friendly as possible.
Child Friendly Facilities
Set well away from the holiday properties is the grassy outdoor play area where children can play to their hearts content and shriek with delight without fear of upsetting other holiday guests. Here you will find a swing/climbing area, football area as well as the ever popular trampoline!
The indoor games room is a fabulous space away from the cottages to allow parents and children another alternative for a place to retreat to and enjoy a game of table tennis, table football, darts or pool. Dotted around this room are bikes of different sizes which holiday guests may borrow. The courtyard is kept free of vehicles to enable little ones space to play or cycle in safety.
