Stradey Park Hotel, Carmarthenshire

Family Friendly Hotel in Wales - Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli, Wales.

If you are looking for a welcoming family friendly hotel at the gateway between the Gower Peninsula and the Carmarthenshire coast and beyond then the Stradey Park is for you. The hotel overlooks the village of Furnace in Llanelli, South Wales. The impressive house and the village's name are entwined with the area's industrial past but there is nothing industrial about the vistas as the hotel enjoys glorious views over the village, fields and extensive coastline.

On arrival it is wise to park and unload near reception as there is a slight incline from the main car park. The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly - showing attention to all members of the family big and small! Whilst there is limited outdoor space, the reception areas of the hotel provide plenty of comfortable sofas for all the family. The lovely gallery leading to the restaurant is light and airy thanks to the large windows and French doors - a relaxing spot to sit and enjoy a drink.

Family Rooms

The interconnecting family rooms are very comfortable with extra cushions and furry throws for the children to flop into after a busy day out. Parents can watch t.v.or plug their i-pod or i-phone into the alarm clock docking station and listen to music in one room, whilst the children can enjoy the t.v. or X-box (games available at reception - no charge) in the next. There's a welcome bottle of Welsh water in each room in addition to the usual complimentary tea and coffee. Babysitting services by local NNEB nurses, registered with social services can be arranged and cots/Z beds for under 12s are available.

Family Friendly Extras

Packed lunches are on offer for family stays and well worth it! You can order at breakfast or the night before and there is a lovely selection of fillings, all freshly made with fruit, drink, yoghurt and crisps included too. Breakfast and dinner can be enjoyed in the restaurant with views of the coastline. The art deco bar area leads onto the hidden gem - the rooftop terrace - a superb vantage point from which the children can enjoy the views from the ramparts safely behind the glass barriers, whilst you can sit, sip and rest!

Location and Things to Do

Nothing is too much trouble at this hotel. As well as the usual information on local attractions they include lots of other useful numbers including local taxi firms, post offices, petrol stations, even hairdressers! This hotel is a great base to explore the area and there's local cycle hire if you don't fancy packing your own. The National Wetlands Centre for Wales is only a 10 minute drive away where you can enjoy the wildlife while strolling on gentle walks with access for wheelchairs and buggies. Pembrey Country Park is great for a family day out, there's Oakwood for rides and Folly Farm, as well as the LC water park - all within easy reach and, of course, lots of gorgeous beaches to discover.

Lasting Impression

We really enjoyed our stay at the Stradey Park, it's relaxed, and pleasant atmosphere definitely made us feel comfortable and stress free. Look out for special family offers - there is a great one now until the beginning of September 2011, which includes children under 12 eating for free.

Thank you to Jill Hill and family who kindly reviewed Stradey Park Hotel for Away with the Kids.
