Swansea Marriott Hotel, South Wales
Child Friendly Hotel in Swansea, Maritime Quarter, South Wales
The Swansea Marriott enjoys an enviable position close to the
city centre yet overlooking the Marina, Swansea Bay and the nearby Mumbles. This welcoming child friendly hotel boasts the perfect location to experience the different aspects of Swansea and the
Gower Peninsula.
On arrival we were greeted by the lovely receptionist who made both myself and my daughter (Bethan - aged 10) feel very welcome. She made sure we knew where the leisure pool was
and that there were no time restrictions for children – no surprise we ended up
in there within the hour! It is a compact leisure area and the swim was a
welcome antidote to our long journey.
Family Accommodation
Our room was
comfortable with two double beds, TV, WiFi and tea and coffee facilities plus spacious enough to accommodate extra single beds or cots if needed. Unfortunately the large 32 inch plasma TV, with the latest box office movies-on-demand suitable for kids and parents didn't even get used as there was so much to see and do locally. For larger families there are a number of hotel rooms with interconnecting doors available. Our personalised welcome pack contained lots of useful information – a map of
the town centre and leaflets on local activities as well as a child’s activity
pack. Without a doubt the most important item in it was the ice cream voucher
which could be used in the restaurant!
Sleep and Eat...
Without question I enjoyed my best sleep ever in the Marriott – the mattress was so comfortable I seriously considered purchasing one from the in house brouchure ! After such a good night’s rest breakfast did not disappoint – a wonderful selection of continental meats, cheeses & yogurts as well as cereals and pastries were on offer as well as a traditional cooked breakfast. There’s also the opportunity to order packed lunches if you are heading for a day out. The family-friendly restaurant serves local produce complimented with fine wine,
and a fun-packed kids menu available too. If you happen to have those late night munchie pangs then the 24 hour room service is always on hand.
Things to do in the local area
As you walk out of the hotel you can choose to go into town,
stroll around the Marina or walk along the promenade that connects Swansea Bay
to the lovely Mumbles village. We chose a late afternoon walk (or, in my
daughter’s case- rollerblade !) around the Marina. We enjoyed looking at the
different boats moored up, had a quick shop and looked in on the Maritime Museum.
The central leisure complex, LC, is part of this area as is the Dylan Thomas
theatre.
Not far away are several lovely parks – Singleton and Brynmill
as well as the beautiful Clyne Gardens. There’s a pitch and putt next to the
prom and at the gateway to Mumbles is the Lido at Black Pill – a lovely large
paddling area and cafe – great in the summer sun. Mumbles offers quirky shops,
cafes and restaurants. Also there’s the pier with the lifeboat and lighthouse
beyond – not forgetting the great beaches- all this within easy access of the
Marriott.
Swansea and Beyond
For the
sports-loving families, there are lots of activities along the coast to try
out, and miles of beautiful walking trails along the Gower Peninsula. Swansea Bay has water sports including kite and wind surfing and swimming available within easy walking distance of the hotel. Rent some
bikes nearby or bring your own for a peaceful cycle along the promenade right
down to Mumbles, enjoying an ice-cream on the pier. There is also direct access to
the beach too; perfect for sunbathing and sandcastles!
And finally...
The Swansea Marriott offers a family friendly welcome and a great location from which to enjoy a host of different activities.
Many thanks to Jill Hill and daughter Bethan for reviewing Swansea Marriott Hotel on behalf of Away with the Kids.
