About The Granary
The Granary is a charming, three bedroom holiday cottage in a delightful and secluded location in Steyning, West Sussex. Typical of Louise and Les the newly re-furbished cottage is exquisitely tasteful and perfect for families with lots of child-friendly extras and it’s own courtyard, gardens & parking. Steyning is a bustling little town with a monthly farmers market and everything you need within walking distance. Just 2 minutes walk from the cottage is the local park with a children's play area and access to miles of walks across the South Downs National Park..
Both stylish and family friendly, The Granary is a rural retreat for a family of 6, just a few miles from the Sussex coast. The owners, the Nicholson family, have clearly drawn on their many years of experience in owning child friendly places to stay. The Nicholson's have obviously gone to great lengths to ensure all their guests enjoy a proper break. They provide a good list of baby and toddler gear so packing, loading and unloading is minimal for stress-free holidays with children and offer frazzled parents the chance to completely unwind with the option to provide home cooked meals during your stay.
With lovely walking on the doorstep and a beautiful rural location ideal for exploring the South Downs National Park The Granary lies within the charming town of Steyning one of the prettiest small towns in Sussex.
The Holiday Cottage - sleeps 6
The detached former Granary boasts modern interiors, but comfortable décor, equipped with everything you need to create a home away from home. There is parking for 2 cars, an entrance hall, a large open plan living room with dining space, TV/DVD/IPOD dock, and a downstairs bedroom/playroom. The kitchen has granite worktops, an AGA, built in fridge/freezer/dishwasher with a stable door, which leads to the pretty courtyard. Upstairs there is a large bathroom with a further 2 bedrooms (one with king-size bed, one twin room).
*There are some steep steps from the courtyard, which lead to another area of the garden but there will be a gate/barrier to ensure that it is safe for young children so they cannot go off exploring on their own!
The owners offer pre-bookable baking/pizza making workshops here too in the summer so families can join that too should they wish. A fabulous Neals Yard therapist will also be available for treatments either in the comfort of your own holiday cottage or 5 minutes down the road at the owners place. There is also a very good beautician in the village too should you prefer to take a stroll up the high street.
The Nicolson's are passionate about food and like to bake. When you stay at the Granary you will be welcomed with a hamper of homemade goodies. They also offer home made take out options delivered to your door for you to enjoy in the privacy of your own accommodation.
Use of Outdoor Swimming Pool mid May -Sept
The owners live just 5 minutes up the road from Steyning at The Artisan Bakehouse. Guests of The Granary would be welcome to visit the facilities to use the outdoor heated pool at anytime during your stay (mid May -Sept) and see the rabbits & chickens! Access is via a code on the gate so you can come and go as you please. There is also an outdoor toilet for changing etc.
Car Free Holidays
If families want to just come by train and leave the car at home, Shoreham-by-Sea is just over 5 minutes away by taxi. Steyning is totally self sufficient so this is possible.
Location and Things to Do in Sussex
The cottage is in a quiet lane off the picturesque Steyning High Street. Steyning is a bustling little town with a monthly farmers market and has everything you need within walking distance. Butchers including the very popular Garlic Wood Farm, bakers, green grocer with award winning Sussex Produce company, restaurants, pubs, cafés and tearooms & many individual shops. Just a 2 minute stroll from the cottage and you reach the park with children's play area and access to miles of walks across the South Downs, so if you did not want to drive during the stay that is very possible. You can also walk within 20 mins to the river Adur too, which is beautiful. For keen cyclists it is possible to cycle to the beach along the disused railway, which is a nice day out (approx 45 min cycle). There is also a leisure centre with indoor heated pool in the village too.
There is lots to see locally if you want to venture out in the car or by train; historic Arundel with its castle & river, the south coast beaches (2 local ones have just been voted in the Times top 10 beaches - Brighton for ‘most trendy', West Witterings for ‘best for swimming' - both just 30 mins away), Petworth Park, Drusillas zoo, Wahsbrook farm to name a few good days out locally.
