About The Green Child Friendly Cottages
The Green House and Cottages is simply an enchanting child and parent-friendly destination. You will find a beautiful, peaceful, car-free environment with everything you need for an idyllic escape. Discover the paddocks and orchard, lake and river and enjoy the stunning moorland backdrops throughout. You’ll find paths around the grounds to explore with seats to enjoy the views! Children have their own outdoor adventure play ground with swings, slide and climbing frame set in the beautiful orchard. Ducks can be fed down at the pond or else play pooh sticks – our family favourite particularly when Aggie launches branches in the stream. You have 14 acres to relish, perfect for wind down quality family time.
The Green, House and Cottages comprise 14 acres of gorgeous Cornish countryside and stunning luxurious cottages and it is a truly lovely place. The view throughout the day - particularly first thing - is stunning - relaxing spa treatments not required here! It's a car free zone with grass to run on, to lie on and to roll down, trees to climb - or the adventure playground complete with a hammock in which to tell stories, woodland to stroll through and ponds to skim stones and go dipping. We loved it here. The Green is also an exclusive-use wedding venue - in fact my little sis is planning on getting married here, you'll understand why!
The Green cottages sleep from 2 to 6 people - the gorgeous seven-bedroom house sleeps up to 12. Interiors are luxurious and very stylish - they are also practical. The open plan living area of our three bedroom cottage ensured none of us felt out of things whilst cooking or loading the dishwasher, you know the things that need to be done! Our lounge overlooked the valley - it was incredibly relaxing just watching and waiting for the buzzards to fly across.
We had a huge bed in the master bedroom, my sister had plenty of space in her double room and fitted the babies cot in easily, Ned and Aggie shared the twin and loved having their own bathroom and space. The two bathrooms one with a walk in shower, the other over the bath, helped during the morning rush and at bedtime.
Baby and toddler packs are available - request on booking. Cots and highchairs too. A lovely selection of toys are left for the kids to find as are books and games and DVDs.
Things to Do On Site
Children do have their own out-door adventure play ground with swings, slide and climbing frame set in the beautiful orchard. It's good for a game of footie, cricket, rounders, tag - anything requiring bombing around like lunatics! We have older children now so I was happy for them to wander across unattended - little ones would need to be accompanied as it is a distance from the cottages and by the gate out.
This serene setting holds lost of lovely pastimes. The cottage area is a car-free zone so you don't have to fret about that aspect and the children can just get on with things. Ours free-wheeled down the hill on their Like Bikes outside our cottage (heart in mouth), rolled down the hill, raced down the hill, explored the woods (with us), went pond dipping, stream striding, flower-spotting, tree climbing, den building, exploring - BBQs are available when you find your spot. Importantly we didn't need to part with any cash - back to natural play perfection.
If you fancy camping out for a night with the little ones Moira will provide all you need for a night of adventure on the woods - and the next night you'll be back in your cosy bed. Chef services can be arranged if you fancy a treat - and if you do get the urge spa treatments may be booked on site.
To Do Locally
There is loads to do and a list as long as your arm prepared and waiting for you in the cottage. Bodmin Moor is on your doorstep, beaches not far away and the Eden Project easy to get to if the weather is a bit dodgy - or glorious!
The local pub is traditional and friendly and served us good food quickly at tea-time avoiding meltdowns, the hazard of eating out. We also came across a fab farm shop with a fine selection of fresh and preserved food to browse -and eat! We ended up scoffing some of the best bbq food and salad for tea one fine summer evening whilst the kids made friends with the locals and watched and fed the animals. Ginger beer and burgers - yum!
Lazing on the bank with a glass of something cold watching the kids always puts a smile on my face - staying in a luxurious comfortable cottage, with fab beds and linen, good showers, a kitchen housing everything I might need and fine views on tap helps too. It's simply perfect.
Short breaks available from Jan to March. Dogs are welcome.
