The best way
I can describe the Shepherd’s House to you is to ask you to imagine you are going to
stay with friends who have a little granny flat attached to their house. They
have a young family so they know what it’s like and because of that they’ll
have all the little bits and pieces that parents need but can’t always take
with them on holiday. Oh, and because they’ve got kids they understand that
they sometimes get up, cry and make noise during the night and don’t mind. Sound
good? Welcome to the Shepherd’s House B&B.
Accommodation
consists of an en-suite double room with the dining room and lounge area down
the stairs. As you’ll be the only ones there it’s exclusively yours. For wee
ones there’s a solid wooden cot plus bedding and/or an inflatable ready bed for
children 2-5, flexi-bath suitable for ages 0-4 (great idea!!), change mat, eco-friendly
nappy sacks, organic toiletries including wet wipes, bath & shower wash and
a wireless baby monitor with night light.
See – all the
little bits and bobs as promised! But wait – there’s more....
For meals
there’s a high chair or booster seat, breastfeeding cushions, bottle warmer
& steam sterilizer, child-sized plates, bowls, cups and cutlery. And for
added peace of mind there’s a stair gate, socket covers and your tea &
coffee station will be moved to a safe location out of baby’s reach.
Remember I
asked you to imagine you were going to stay with friends? Well, when you meet
Jenny and Chris it’s like they are. Welcoming, helpful, understanding – quite simply
the best hosts you could ask for if you are travelling with a wee one. The
welcome you’ll receive will put you at ease in seconds and set you up for your
stay. It really is like staying with good friends.
The surrounding
area is great for walks and the views spectacular. There are lots of things to
do nearby and their website lists tried and tested destinations. I agree with
them all.
The Shepherd’s
House at the moment is really suited to new parents with a baby or wee one
under 5, especially if you’re testing the water and venturing out for the first
time. More than one child and you will start to struggle with space. However,
come spring 2012 the Shepherd’s Rest, their brand new en-suite shepherd’s hut
with underfloor heating and space for up to three in a double bed with cabin
bunk above, will be available making space for larger families to stay.
I wish the
Shepherd’s House had been around when we had our first wee one. It would have
been so nice to get away without the stress of carrying the entire contents of
the nursery and bathroom just in case and knowing your hosts understood.
Highly
recommended by Away with the Kid(s). The ‘s’ will apply after 2012...
