The White Cliffs Hotel, nr Dover, Kent
Child Friendly Hotel nr Dover, St. Margaret's-at-Cliffe
For a child friendly hotel in Dover, The White Cliffs Hotel certainly ticks all the boxes. Centred around a beautiful, traditional Kentish weather boarded Inn, parts of which date back to Elizabethan times, the hotel has a stylish, contemporary feel without compromising the charm of this delightful historic building. Families have the option of staying in the hotel or booking one of the self catering cottages within the hotels grounds.
The Accommodation
Within the hotel's main building the rooms for a family stay are varied so it is best to stipulate what you require; whether a room with a bath is high priority or a room with plenty of space. The hotel boasts converted loft rooms for something a little different. All rooms have their own character and are tastefully decorated. Family rooms easily sleep 4 and the hotel offers Z-beds, and travel cots when required to efficiently maximise accommodation for a family.
The self catering Mews within the hotels grounds have either one or two bedrooms and are furnished to reflect the coastal theme of the New England style wooden clad cottages. The cottages have all the usual facilities including the all important microwave oven for those emergencies; be it for a quick bottle feed, or a convenience meal. A stay here means you have the bonus of the flexibility and privacy that self catering offers but also you have access to all the amenities available to hotel guests.
During your holiday break you also have use of The White Cliffs Hotel's lounge and bar which is open all day and the Loft Micro Spa with its chill-out lounge and treatment room for grown-ups.
Families staying here will also benefit from becoming members of The Spa Club at Wallett's Court (1 mile away), one of the finest luxury leisure and spa experiences in South East Kent, enabling you to take a swim in the indoor pool, relax in the jacuzzi, sauna or steam room or for the more active go for a workout in the fitness studio or play a few sets of tennis on the all weather floodlit tennis courts. Please check on opening hours as there are restricted hours for children under 16 years of age.
Child Friendly Facilities
The hotel offers bottle warming (if staying in the main hotel part) and babysitting and listening services. The babysitting is a mixture of in-sourcing and outsourcing, and all babysitters fully qualified. A baby plug-in monitor is available to borrow if parents would like to enjoy a meal in the restaurant while the kids are settled and asleep in their room - this also works in the self catering apartments. Spend a sunny afternoon in the walled garden (a fabulous sun trap) with a book and a Kentish Cream tea whilst the kids explore the play area with its teepee, books and famous dressing-up box.
Family Friendly Restaurant
There is nothing better after your day's exertions to return to The White Cliffs Hotel and sample the delights from the award winning, child-friendly Bay Restaurant. With entries in The Good Food Guide, a 2 rosette award in The AA Best Restaurant Guide and many other plaudits, you know your taste buds are in for a treat. Breakfast is also of the same high standard but please note that if you require a hearty cooked English breakfast this will be charged as extra.
Family Days Out
Being just ten minutes drive from the port and Cruise Terminal at Dover, it is an ideal excuse to take a ferry over the English Channel and have a day trip to Calais. The beach at St Margaret's bay is just over a mile away and lies at the foot of the of the famous white chalk cliffs. The beach is a mix of sand, shingle and pebbles, but offers many happy hours for children to play, and adults to walk along the raised promenade. Access is probably not best with prams and buggies. The coastal path leads to the famous White Cliffs of Dover, a National Trust walk through unspoilt farmland. The hotel is less than 50 metres from National Cycle Route Number 1 which runs along the coast between Dover and Deal. There are a number of local trails ideal for mountain biking which take in cliff top scenery and wooded valleys away from the noise and pollution of traffic. Dover has several historic attractions including Dover Castle one of the largest castles in the country and is just 4 miles away. Canterbury is a popular day out with its Cathedral, museums and shops, just 17 miles away.
