Twentysix: a chic and peaceful cabin, a short wander from the beach.

Frances & Ben visited:

Twentysix is a stunningly pretty and very cosy chalet-style retreat, overlooking a lake in the seaside hamlet of Anderby Creek. Situated on the Lincolnshire coast, it's a perfect option for a holiday or weekend away if you'd love some rest and relaxation with your family, while surrounded by peace and quiet and natural beauty.

Twentysix is light and airy. It has been beautifully designed and really does make you feel instantly welcome and like you want to stay longer, even though you've just arrived! The interior design is very attractive: the colours of greens and turquoises give it a happy and fresh feel, and there's a cool European atmosphere to it. Funky elements such as the brightly coloured beanbag and colour-changing lamp are very appealing to children.

In the daytime, sunshine streams in through the lounge, dining area and kitchen windows, making breakfast a joy. Open the doors to sit out on the terrace overlooking the lake on fine days. For the evenings, the cabin is well-stocked with firewood and you can get the log burner going to have a cosy evening in. Bring DVDs, board games and jigsaw puzzles and enjoy relaxing, timber cabin-style.

We'd say it's ideal for:
• families with children under the age of ten
• families with either one or two children
• families who are happy without lively entertainment in the immediate area

We really loved whiling away our time here and think you will too.

Accommodation

Twentysix has two well-designed bedrooms: a double room for the grown ups, and a room with a bunk bed to accommodate two children. Guests with babies or toddlers are welcome to bring their own travel cot.

Facilities

Inside Twentysix you will find two bedrooms, a bathroom, and an open plan kitchen/dining and lounge area. The cabin is well equipped with cooking and dining equipment. In the dining area is a round table comfortable for a family of four. The chairs around the table are bright green, lightweight, fantastic for kids and very comfortable. A high chair is available for very young children. The lounge area consists of a sofa, an armchair and a beanbag - enough choice of seating for everyone to get comfy! The children's bedroom has a cool table lamp which changes colour, and a selection of children's books. There are puzzles available for older children, as well as plenty of fiction and non-fiction reading material for the grown-ups.

There's a flatscreen TV and DVD player and there is extra firewood in the shed to keep the log burner blazing on cold evenings. The bathroom consists of toilet, sink and shower, along with heated towel rail, and towels are provided. There is a terrace and a small grassy area in front of the cabin. This overlooks a lake which is beautiful but children do need to be supervised when in the garden in front of the cabin. The cabin is relatively compact but we feel very adequately accommodates a family of four. Watch this space, as wi-fi will be coming to the cabin later in the year.

Surrounding area

The beach at Anderby Creek is unspoilt, and we are told that even at the height of summer it never gets too busy. Stretches of lovely sand provide a wonderful space to play, picnic and relax. The beach is complete with birdwatching tower and a quirky ‘cloud bar', giving you 360 degree views of the surrounding area, and a guide to the different types of cloud that can be spotted.

Twentysix is one of a number of holiday homes, and permanent homes, on Grace Crescent. It is situated right by the lake and the surrounding countryside is very pleasant. The cabin is a short drive from lively Skegness and a range of family friendly attractions, from the Natureland Seal Sanctuary to the further afield Normanby Hall Country Park and the Pink Pig Farm Adventure. Martin, the owner of Twentysix, is knowledgeable about the area and can advise on activities very local to the cabin along the lines of nature walks and wildlife spotting, and events on the beach such as a kite festival in the summer. Visit the owner's website to stay up to date with local events.

Highlights of our stay

The fabulous welcome basket of plum bread (a local delicacy) and local cheeses; breakfast in the cabin with the French doors open and sunshine streaming in; sitting on the deck overlooking the lake playing a board game; wandering to the beach at Anderby Creek and seeing a spectacular sunset.

Final thoughts

We would really like to go back and spend a few more days there! We felt the peacefulness of the local area, coupled with the cosiness of the cabin, gave us time and space to just properly unwind. And staying somewhere so near to the coast is very special indeed.
