Uppergate Farmhouse is a lovely grand, yet friendly house that may either be rented as a self-catering unit with one, two or three bedrooms or else may be rented as a B & B with all rooms en-suite. All rooms have their own TV and tea and coffee making facilities for early risers. The lovely, cosy lounge with squishy sofas, a fire and books, maps and board games to keep you occupied or distracted is the perfect space to end a busy sight-seeing day! It could be a really good option for grandparents who'd like their own space to join you on holiday who may join you after their very civilised award-winning ‘best breakfast in Britain'! Perhaps swap for at least one night.
Uppergate Barn - 5 Star rating
Uppergate Barn is simply stunning. The description "a 350 year old barn conversion" doesn't do it justice but it's what it is, although to such a high standard that it has been awarded 5 stars and a Gold Award by the English Tourism Board - not an easy achievement! It's gloriously spacious, luxuriously furnished, has huge bathrooms and a superb landing, as well as a sun room, a huge lounge with glorious windows to enjoy the views and a kitchen big enough to live in. It has four bedrooms with a capacity to sleep up to 10 using a couple of additional single beds. There's also a hot tub out on your patio to sip the fizz and celebrate finding such a gem.
Lots. On site the daily animal feeding ritual and help with egg-grading, play area and a pool session booked for your own private use with use of a sauna and steam room too - vouchers are available should you wish to use either or both regularly. The farm has cows, sheep, pigs, horses and ponies for the kids to visit dependent on the time of year - Steve explained they have approx 200 - 300 hundred free roaming hens so egg-gathering will be a joy!
The 12.5 m pool is glorious. With a fab spacious changing area and huge shower they'll be no rushing to get the kids warm whilst balancing on one foot trying not to drop your clothes in a puddle! You will all have a whale of a time splashing about with it all to your-self. There are easy steps in and a constant depth of 1m - communal times are available too. The sauna and steam room is available should one of you get chance to sneak off and have quiet time.
Out & About
There are walks from the farm including The Kirklees Way which travels along the river valley or through Morton Woods where the kids can navigate streams and footbridges - a do-able family walk, go trekking in the hills, visit the local Hepworth park, hire cycles, go horse-riding or visit the local pub - so local it's just along your lane - it's also award-winning, sells excellent food and welcomes families - worth at least one night off cooking duty!
Personally I'd highly recommend Yorkshire's fantastic Sculpture Park in Wakefield. On a dry day you cannot beat the ‘outdoor gallery', rolling fields offering tons of space where you will happen on stunning sculptures seemingly randomly left there - my girls love it. The Kirklees Light Railway is fab for Thomas fans and enthusiasts of steam engines generally.
Please note that smoking is not permitted anywhere on the farm and pets are not allowed.
