Wyresdale Park - a Country House Hideout, Lancashire

Scorton, Preston, Lancashire

The first glimpse of your tents tucked away in the trees will transport you to another world. Is it a lodge on the African savannah? One of the settlements in 'Swallows and Amazons perhaps?  Or the hideout that Tarzan made for Jane? Country House Hideout is ideal for families with older children who are up for exploring the natural world around them. Close at hand is a microscope to examine the mysterious looking specimends in and around your tents. Over there is a field telephone whose workings will make your children appreciate that mobiles did not just appear by magic one day. And when darkness falls, you can all gaze up at a night sky unobscured by urban light pollution through your telescope.

Grown ups are not forgotten. Your stay will be under the sort of capacious canvas that graced the African plains during the reign of Queen Victoria. Comfortable beds, proper furniture and a hot tub crown will crown your settlement.

Your luxury encampment will be down on the estate lake. The Whewell children grew up there damming streams, sailing wooden boats and building camp fires in the woods. They invite you and your family to come and do much the same. At the bottom of your garden is a 500 acre fell with magnificent views onto the Irish Sea.

Venturing out from the Wyresdale Park estate, from upland pastures and moorland, to deep wooded valleys, the surrounding Forest of Bowland is wild and magnificent. The Abbeystead Estate, the Duke of Westminster's sporting jewel, can be walked round; the Inn at Whitwell is in the neighbouring valley, a multi-award winning and wonderfully eccentric stone inn reputed to have inspired Tolkein.
