Family Break at Bluestone Wales near Tenby

Travel Tips

What can you expect at Bluestone in Pembrokeshire? And do you opt for bikes or golf buggies? Find out how we got on during our family break in October half term.

Family break in Wales

Arriving at Bluestone and picking up our pre-booked bikes I did wonder why so many people were opting for the golf buggy. It didn't take long for the penny to drop. We toured around the village checking out the shops, restaurants and getting our bearings before heading back to our accommodation which you had access from 3 pm. As we managed to get back up the hill without stopping it was quite hard for little legs and also for big ones especially pulling a kids trailer behind. The next time we return the golf buggies look the more attractive option.

Our holiday villa was a 2 storey topsy turvy Ramsey Lodge with 2 bedrooms each with luxurious en-suites on the ground floor. Upstairs the open plan living, dining and kitchen area took full advantage of the great views of the surrounding Welsh countryside and Bluestone village. Early on a morning just before the mist had lifted in the valley, Bluestone takes on a serene, almost magical quality.

Bluestone Family Break

At Bluestone you can take it easy or cram in activities galore. On our first day we had booked a days pass for the adventure centre. This place was ideal for kids of all ages even the hard to please teens. In the main room there was a large indoor play centre including mini-golf, ride on tractors, bouncy castle and optional extras climbing wall and sky walk. Both my girls didn't last long before they were strapping on their harnesses for the sky walk - I think the pictures speak for themselves! Other areas to visit in the adventure centre was the Wii room with a huge space for the whole family to try out their dance moves on the interactive dance mats. Adjoining this was the Lego room and not to be missed discovery room.

The Blue Lagoon is a fantastic indoor swimming complex and all guests staying at Bluestone have access passes for as long as your stay. With a wave machine, toddler pool and various chutes we loved the fact that it was open to 9pm every night in the October half term holiday.

I managed to sneak out and have an indulgent body massage and would've loved to have stayed for longer but someone was so relaxed after their treatment they were flat out snoring in the relaxation room so I felt like I was intruding. Housed in the same building as the spa is a gym which I had planned to use but ran out of time.

Staying at Bluestone in the school holidays there are always extra special events put on for families to partake in. We were there in the October half term holidays and decided to go to the Halloween party. The kids got dressed up and we all enjoyed the buffet especially the chocolate fountain, the disco, party games and topped off the night with a spooky Halloween walk.

There are loads of extra activities you could book if you so choose - like safari trail, jeep rides, tree top high wires and archery but Pembrokeshire is such a fabulous area to tour around and Tenby being so close we had to venture out for the day. Folly Farm is an excellent choice if you wanted a change of scenery. We could not resist Oakwood Theme Park before we set off back on our journey home as it is right next door to Bluestone.
