Get Out & About with the Kids

Do you have some time off that you'd like to spend with your family? You don't need to travel very far. There are plenty of places right in the UK where you can have some fun days out with the kids. Just a few possible locations include zoos, theme parks, and historical sites. Whether you would like to educate your children in the process or just spend a day having fun, you should consider some of the locations presented below when you next want to go on a family outing.

Zoos and Adventure Parks

Kids love animals, and they can learn a lot from a day at the zoo or on safari. The UK has several different places where children can get up close and personal with exotic animals of all sorts. This includes the Longleat Safari and Adventure Park in Wiltshire, which allows families to tour a safari-like area in a boat or on a railway. For more domesticated animals, Hampshire has the Longdown Activity Farm, where children can bottle-feed baby farm animals and experience other hands-on activities. The Dartmoor Zoo in Devon is a more traditional zoo that has recently gotten a big bump in popularity because it was featured in the Hollywood film We Bought a Zoo with Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson.

Theme Parks and Museums

Whether you want to have fun on rides or enjoy some hands-on activities during your days out, there are dozens of different locations throughout the UK that you can enjoy. The Catalyst Science Discovery Centre Contact in Cheshire provides an amazing interactive exploration of science and technology. Fans of the long-running Railway Series might enjoy Thomas Land in Staffordshire, where they can enjoy a 6,000 square metre park that has been modelled after the fictional island of Sodor, complete with the chance to ride on Thomas the Tank Engine! The Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park in Suffolk provides a lot of excitement and adrenalin-pumping rides such as the Wipeout and the Fireball.

Historical Sites and Scenic Vistas

There are many historical sites for you and your little ones to visit such as Elizabeth Castle in Jersey. This castle has been preserved as well as possible and can be accessed by ferry or by foot when the tide is low. Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire is the birthplace of Winston Churchill and home to some amazing attractions, including a miniature train and the second largest hedge maze in the world. If you want to focus more on pleasant scenery and relaxation, there are sites such as Sandy Beach in Anglesey, which is located right down a country lane and can be found near an authentic medieval chapel!

This is only a handful of great places across the UK and goes to show that if you are planning some days out with the kids, you don't have to look very far to find something local that can please the whole family!
