We recently discovered this gem upon recommendation by the lovely Mark, owner of the luxurious but completely child friendly Lazy Fish holiday cottage just near Whinlatter Forest. With a young family himself he said we should go and visit the newly launched WildPlay for ourselves... so we did!
Whinlatter Forest rises to 790m above sea level and boats stunning views of the Lake District. If you are a keen biker you will be sorely tempted to get yourself on two wheels as it has superb challenging bike rides. If this sounds a little daunting you may prefer to enjoy your surroundings on two feet.
Should little ones legs not want to walk far then the best option maybe to visit kids the new Whinlatter Forest WildPlay. This is a fabulous adventure trail set within the forest whereby the kids are challenged across 9 different and exciting play activities. And after everyone is worn out there is a café pit stop next to the visitor centre in which to refuel, serving up home-cooked favourites.
Older children and teenagers may prefer Go Ape also based at Winlatter Forest. This is a testing, adrenaline fuelled, obstacle course and zip wires located high up in the trees. So high, it is in fact Go Ape's highest course in the country. At 360 metres above sea level, you can even see all the way to Scotland! Kids have to be ten and upwards and be accompanied by an adult on the equipment at all times. Please allow 3 hours in which to complete the Go Ape course and see further details here.
