Day Location Accommodation Activities
Day 1 Arrive in Quito Swissôtel Quito Spend your first day getting your bearings at this stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site and Cultural Capital of South America. In the evening, you’ll get a welcome briefing by a trip leader to discuss the details of your trip and answer any questions you may have. You will be staying the night at Swissôtel Quito.
Day 2 Travel to Isabela Island Isabela Beach House or similar This is a travel day to Isabela Island. You’ll hop on a morning flight from Quito to the island of Baltra before heading to the town of Puerto Ayora, the biggest in the Galapagos. From there you will take a fast boat to Isabela, the largest island in the archipelago - look out for dolphins and whales on the way (July to October). You’ll be staying the night in an Isabela beach house or similar.
Day 3 Isabela Island – Sierra Negra Volcano Isabela Beach House or similar After driving up from Puerto Villamil to the trailhead, you will hike to the rim of Sierra Negra Crater, an active volcano which last erupted in October 2005. Take in the breathtaking views and explore the circumference of the massive, lava-filled crater, over six miles across at its widest point. You’ll have the afternoon to relax on the beach or take your first snorkeling exploration at concha Perla bay looking for sea lions, turtles and more sea wildlife. You’ll be staying the night on Isabela Island again in a beach house or similar.
Day 4 Isabela Island – Flamingo Lagoon and Tintoreras Isabela Beach House or similar Explore the coastline by bike on an exclusive trail that takes you to visit the Wall of Tears, white sandy beaches, mangrove forests and lagoons filled with birdlife - including American oystercatchers, herons, flamingos, finches and many shore birds, as well as the ubiquitous sea lions and marine iguanas. In the afternoon you will head out onto the water in a kayak and visit Tintoreras Islet which is home to a great variety of wildlife including white-tipped reef sharks, Galapagos Penguins, marine turtles and sea lions. You will stay the night at Isabela in a beach house or similar.
Day 5 Santa Cruz Island – Charles Darwin Research Station Silberstein Hotel or similar In the morning you’ll be hopping onto the fast boat to Santa Cruz Island, looking out for dolphins and whales on the way (July to October). When you arrive you’ll check in to your hotel. Finish off the morning learning about many of the endemic species you met on your adventure, as well as the ongoing conservation efforts on the Galapagos Islands at the Charles Darwin Research Station. Later, head to the 'El Chato' Reserve in the highlands of Santa Cruz, home to the famous Galapagos tortoise. You will also have the chance to spot pintail ducks, egrets, flycatchers and finches on your hike. Spend the evening in Puerto Ayora and stay in the Silberstein Hotel or similar.
Day 6 Santa Cruz Silberstein Hotel or similar This is a free day for you to experience the Galapagos at your own pace. Popular options include a self-guided exploration walk to Tortuga Bay for swimming or snorkeling or pay extra for a trip to Floreana Island, Bartolome Island or a scuba-diving day trip. You will stay overnight at the Silberstein Hotel or similar on Santa Cruz Island.
