The Away with the Kids review
Converted from the old stables and outbuildings Corffe’s charming self-catering cottages are perfect for a child-friendly break in Devon. Part of the Corffe Estate the cottages enjoy five acres of private land on the outskirts of Tawstock, a pretty village in Devon. The nine cottages, sleeping from two to ten, are all well presented and fully-equipped for family stays with cots, high chairs and stair gates at the ready, along with bits and bobs in the kitchen to make life simpler.
Facilities on site are brilliant. The indoor heated swimming pool, toddler pool and hot tub are a natural pull for all ages - whatever the weather - but particularly a good distraction if the weather isn’t playing ball! With 9 x 6 metres of space you won’t feel crowded - depth is between 1-2 metres - pool toys are available. Naturally children should be supervised at all times.
The all-weather tennis court is precisely that. The stroll up to the kids woodland play area is fun in itself - and once there they’ll have a magical time finding wooden animals along with the fabulous wooden fort, swings and sensory play equipment that’s waiting for them. There is a designated football space so balls can be kicked at will without little ones getting in the way!
I loved the Gingerbread House bbq - a brilliant space for parents to sneak off to with a warm drink whilst the kids are running riot (sociaising with new friends?). It’s a real treat of a snug with sheep skins to plonk yourself on and a big central fire to either just enjoy the flames and warmth or get some sausages on the go - it will undoubtedly be a hit throughout the year.
The old red Telephone Box, just off the courtyard, houses books for all ages to borrow.
Getting to meet your fellow holiday-makers is easy thanks to the central courtyard where barbecues and outdoor tables are available for al fresco dining.
A communal laundry room is available with three washers and three dryers available. You just need some change - washing liquid and conditioner included.
All cottages have wi-fi acess. All share the courtyard with outdoor tables and barbeques to enjoy al fresco meals.
