Hidden Meadows Glamping

Child friendly glamping, Suffolk

About Hidden Meadows Glamping

Hidden Meadows Glamping in its completely tranquil surroundings is the perfect place to take the kids for a 'get away from it all and back to nature' holiday. Set in beautiful meadows in the Suffolk countryside where camp-fires are allowed and chickens roam free, Lynne and Ian have thought of everything supplying you  with a welcome pack to get your holiday started consisting of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar, a pint of milk, marshmallows for toasting over the campfire and a homemade cake.

HIDDEN MEADOWS

Hidden Meadows’ Suffolk Glamping site is 25 acres of wild flower meadows, woodland and hedges dating back to Saxon times, ponds, reedbeds and a large stream which meanders through the middle of it, perfect for a quiet, relaxing walk along at any time of day.

The site is a car free zone and each of the three individually themed safari tent comes with comfy leather sofas and throws, a log burner, comfy beds with feather down quilts, a kitchen and private bathroom.

BEST BITS

The Sky: Honestly, you don’t realise how much you take the sky for granted. A glorious display of sunrises, sunsets, cloud shapes and formations, vapour trails, parachutists, microgliders, kestrels and herons… all for your private viewing, framed by the glorious trees around the edge of the meadow.

The History: Some of the trees on site used to be harvested to make clogs! Just one of the marvellous facts we learned from Ian as he and Lynne welcomed us to the meadows.

The Wildlife: Sit on the bridge that crosses the stream for a minute or two and Mama Duck and her babies will come and say hi. A dozen rabbits will be in your eye line at any given time. Swooping herons and kestrels and kites. Colourful butterflies and a dazzling variety of creepy-crawlies out on the paths – ideal for the bug-hunting child with a magnifying glass in your life!

The Interior Design: Our ‘Lord of the Rings’ themed tent was gloriously designed. A stunning ‘raw’ wood kitchen, incredibly detailed carvings on beds that would put 5* hotels to shame in the luxury stakes, and glorious soft furnishings.

The Details: A delicious cake baked by Lynne, the softest towels, a handy information pack, a bag of marshmallows for the children to toast, even the sticks for said marshmallow toasting! Anything and everything you’d need to light a fire. Anything and everything you could need, full stop.

The Calm: The lack of electricity means that even with 3 small, eternally noisy children, there is a sense of peace and quiet about the meadow. With nothing to do (unless you choose to go out and about) but sit and chat and run and practise cartwheeling and light a fire and count baby bunnies, it’s the most peaceful place and so, so restorative.

TOP TIPS

There is a Morrisons and a Tesco 5 miles away, and with only a small solar-powered fridge you don’t want to arrive with a tonne of food. Lynne also provides a pint of milk for your first cup of tea!

Summer or not, and even with the glorious feather duvets, it gets chilly at night. Be prepared, especially for the kids, with fluffy onesies or dressing gowns or similar!

A few kids’ toys would be useful to have in the car – things like balls, bubbles, water pistols, maybe a small kite in the right conditions. Kids will find fun anywhere, but a helping hand can go along way!

Be ready to save the planet – come with your recycling head firmly on. Waste disposal facilities are available and clearly labelled to encourage you to have the absolute minimum environmental effect possible.

WHAT THE KIDS SAY

‘I loved my big bed and the chickens and hearing the birdies when I was sleeping!’ Monty, 3

‘I count one, two, three, four, twenty five bunnies!’ Monty, whilst having his breakfast outside in the meadow

‘I loved it when the man in the glidey-wings (microglider!) waved at me and when we saw all the people jump out of the little plane above us!’ Stella, 5

‘I liked staying up late with mummy and granny and burning marshmallows on the BBQ. But I did have to brush my teeth afterwards!’ Stella to her dad, on our return home.

‘MUMMY COOKED BREAKFAST OUTSIDE!’ (and it was edible!) Monty
