Knowle Farm

Child friendly farm, Devon – Child Friendly Cottages, Rattery, Nr. Totnes, South Devon

About Knowle Farm

Knowle Farm set in 44 acres of South Devon countryside offers six beautifully converted barns overlooking wonderful farmland views. With a range of excellent facilities for families, friendly animals and easy access to everything that South Devon has to offer, Knowle Farm is the perfect family getaway.

The fantastic thing about Knowle Farm is the closeness with which you are able to get to the animals. Open your cottage door and the chickens and ducks will be waiting to be fed. They spend their days roaming around the cottages and fields. There are cute pigs and super soft rabbits that you will have the opportunity to stroke. In fact if you have kids like mine you can bet you are going to be pestered all the way home for a pet of sorts - let's just hope it's not the alpaca they fall in love with. There are also sheep, a Dartmoor pony, two miniature donkeys, guinea pigs and of course not forgetting Peanut the proud peacock. Let your child feed a pig, stroke a donkey, meet a sheep and hear a cockerel crow. This is Knowle Farm - a paradise for little children and animal lovers alike.

Many facilities are provided for families including an indoor swimming pool, indoor soft play area purpose built for children aged five and under, tennis court, pool table, table tennis, and outdoor wooden play fort. One of the most popular recent additions is the walk-in rabbit area with surrounding toddler 'race track' - complete with tractor tyre tunnel. Take the opportunity to brush up on your swimming technique in Knowle Farm's own swimming pool. Thirty minute lessons are available for you or your children (aged 2+) by a qualified Amateur Swimming Association teacher who lives locally and is a Fellow of the Institute of Swimming Teachers and Coaches.

The Cottages

The six individual cottages have all received the VisitEngland Gold award in 2015 for exceptional quality of accommodation. They overlook lovely views and all include: Wood-burning stoves; Freesat T.V (CBeebies etc.); DVD; Wi-Fi and just about everything you could hope for, including cots and high chairs. To save you the packing Baby Baths, Microwave Sterilizers and Booster Steps are available to borrow. Knowle Farm dates back to the 17th Century and all of the cottages have been lovingly converted from barns. The majority have original thick stone walls and are full of character.

Enjoy the 44 acres of beautiful countryside by going on woodland and riverside walks right from your door. Or you can simply relax and watch the animals and wildlife around the pond. If fishing is your thing then try to catch some trout - the river may be narrow but they have been caught - even with fly. Better still there is a local fishery in Rattery for serious anglers. Barbecues are available in season along with outdoor furniture - you can pick your spot to eat, looking out over the pond or right outside your cottage. There is an excellent 11th century local village pub offering lunch and evening meals - children welcome. The area is full of family friendly attractions and fantastic sandy beaches, and the location of Knowle Farm means that nothing is too far away. Dartmoor National Park is just a five minute drive.
