About Redwood Valley Woodland Cabin and Yurts

Set in the most beautiful and tranquil surroundings, with an abundance of wildlife and too many types of birds to mention, Redwood Valley is the ultimate in getting back to nature. Two wonderful 19 foot yurts and a Tree-top Cabin complete with king-size beds, log-burning stoves, spring water and BBQ come fire-pits - the complete get away from it all and space for kids to explore.

Redwood Valley

Redwood Valley is 25 acres of bluebell woods and wildflower meadows that has been lovingly tended over twenty years to return it to the beautiful place it is today. The site is designed to be low impact and was built using felled conifers from the valley and other eco-friendly materials. The site teams with wildlife including deer and otters.

Accommodation

Treetop Cabin

The wooden Treetop Cabin is a very special place - perched high on a wooded slope overlooking the valley, guests can relax and enjoy the tranquility on the balcony where there is a hammock and table and chairs for al fresco dining.

Furnished with a double bed, complete with cosy down duvet and crisp white bedlinen and an additional day bed for a third person, it would ideally suit a small family. In the colder weather, light the wood-burner and get cosy in your cabin. On warmer evenings, light the BBQ, which doubles up as a fire-pit and sit outside in the seating area.

The Yurts

There is a felt-lined Mongolian yurt Eilian, and Seren, a locally made bentwood yurt. They are both 19 foot and sleep five with king-size beds, complete with down duvets and pillows, and one double and one single futon. They are both furnished with vintage and handmade furniture, made by craftsman Ben Willis. In addition to the log burning stoves, there are electric lights, wind up lanterns, BBQ/firepit, table and stools.

Each yurt is set on raised platform with a spiralling, seashell-like lower platform where you can sit and gaze out over the meadow or up at the star-filled sky with no light pollution to interfere.

There is a spring water tap to get your water from.

Facilities

The Woodland Kitchen

The woodland kitchen is fully equipped with two fridges, gas hobs, microwave, toaster, kettle, pots, pans, kitchen implements, cutlery and crockery. There are separate bins for recycling, compost and landfill. Guests are invited to help themselves to the complimentary tea, coffee, sugar, cooking oil, condiments, and herbs and spices. There is a long trestle table on which to eat, play the board games provided or peruse our selection of books on the local area, and plant and wildlife identification.

The Shower and Composting Loo

Next to the kitchen is the shower. Gas-heated to ensure a constant supply of hot water, the shower has a spacious changing area and complimentary shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. The water from the shower and kitchen is managed through an underground soak-away system. For this reason, we kindly ask you to use the biodegradable toiletries provided as these will not harm the local ecosystem.

All water for the kitchen and shower comes from our very own fresh-water spring and is UV-treated to ensure that it is safe for drinking – delicious spring water on tap so bring a bottle and take some home!

Things To Do

You will also find much to keep you occupied within Redwood Valley. Aside from BBQs and campfires, there are two nature trails to explore, a huge rope swing and a brook where you can paddle. Redwood Valley is in a dark sky site – there is an observatory just up the road in Knighton – so bring a telescope if you are a keen stargazer.

In the event of rain, there are plenty of books, playing cards and board games in our kitchen area.

The Woodland Trust’s Nature Detectives website also has some great suggestions for family activities in the woods.

There are a range of fabulous courses in green wordworking.  Check the website for dates.
