About The Lygon Arms

The Lygon Arms is bursting with character. This unique hotel, located in the beautiful Cotswolds, has roots dating back to the 1300s; it’s a place steeped so deep in history you’ll need your wellies to wade through it. The night before the battle of Worcester, Oliver Cromwell rested  here, King Charles used the inn to brief his supporters, King Edward VII and King Edward VIII are linked to this beautiful and unique hotel. Later, came the celebrities, designers and members of our most recent Royalty: this really is a place fit for Kings and Queens!

Once you've brushed up on your history through the ages and educated the children on the English Civil war, you can plan what to do during your stay. Given its location - Broadway, in the Cotswolds - The Lygon Arms  is surrounded by the best of British countryside, where, come rain or shine, you’ll find something to occupy grownups and children alike to do. Foodies and drinkies will not be disappointed in the fayre, the informal, very relaxed atmosphere is welcoming to grownups and absolutely perfect when considering mealtime for the little ones.

Accommodation Options (86 rooms inc 27 Suites)

The Lygon Arms offers a range of luxury accommodation. All rooms and suites are stylishly decorated with a mix of old and new and finished with fine fixtures and fittings. The high quality bedding and British made mattresses will ensure you get a good night’s rest; the Nespresso coffee machine will help you to perk up.

Whilst there are Cosy Rooms - a room for two with a double bed and Classic Roms - a room for two with a king size bed - we recommend couples with a baby (and so requiring a cot) request a Deluxe Room which is a spacious room for two that can more readily house a cot and some have a private terrace. Otherwise choose from;

Junior Suites - suitable for families with a king size bed, twin beds or a double sofa bed, situated near the spa

Courtyard Suites - suitable for families, king bed, twin beds or double sofa bed. Interconnecting rooms are available with a private terrace and garden.

Dog friendly rooms are available and must be requested at time of booking.

To match the opulence of the establishment the Lygon Arms offer outstanding facilities to occupy your children and in turn keep it relaxed for you adults.  There is a swimming pool - a really rather nice swimming pool, which is available for kids splashing at times throughout the day, themed seasonal activities, eggs at easter, pumpkins at halloween, you get the jist, pizza making, cookie decorating, childrens cinema club, half term children's club, babysitting service for term time visits or for younger children. The Spa for deserving moms and dads, offering a range of treatments.

Food, glorious food. Children are considered at The Lygon Arms and are offered a menu fit for Princes and Princesses. Two separate menus are available in the eateries.They are varied and will satisfy the less adventurous, whilst encouraging those who want different tastes.

The Cotswolds is home to some vibrant towns including Cheltenham, Cirencester, Tewkesbury and quintessential English villages, miles of rolling hills, castles, country houses, footpaths, bridleways, ancient woodlands and historic stonewalls.

Broadway sits in the heart of Cotswolds - it's a buzzing little place hosting art exhibitions and vintage car festivals, with plenty of quaint cafes and shopping.  To keep the children occupied there are wellie walks in the great outdoors (available from the hotel), bike rides, activity parks, farm parks, wildlife parks, castles and arboretums, all within a short car drive from the hotel. On a good clear day, take a trip to Broadway Tower, climb up and you can see sixteen counties across rolling English Countryside, pack a picnic and look out for red deer and breather in the country air, good for your lungs I was told! If you haven't had your fill of history education by just staying at The Lygon Arms then take a journey to Stratford and refresh your knowledge of Shakespeare.

It’s not a millions miles away from the bigger cities of Bristol, Birmingham and Oxford if you’re needing a faster pace of life.  My guess is the Cotswolds way will be just enough.
