Godford Farm Holiday Cottages, Honiton near Exeter have two 4 star holiday cottages that can each sleep a family of four. Located in South Devon near the coast you are staying on a working dairy farm, on edge of small rural village, overlooking the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are enclosed gardens for children to play in with lots of ride-on toys and a playhouse. For the older children there is a games barn with table tennis, pool and bar skittles. As you are staying on a dairy farm there are baby calves to see all year round and lots of farming activities to view.
At Godford Farm you can expect a warm welcome waiting for you. Sally the friendly owner puts you at ease and provides you with a thoughtful food hamper including fresh local eggs, bacon, sausages, bread some cereals and milk. Staying on a working farm is a great way to gain an insight into the daily life of a farmer. The cottages are centrally positioned within the farmstead, where you will be able to catch a glimpse of the daily chores on the farm. This may be a cow calving, a tractor on its way to the fields, or enjoying the sound of all the birds chirping in the hedgerows and trees. The kids will thrive on getting up close to the animals around the farm. Sally will be delighted to give you a guided tour of the farm, and let the children help feed the new born calves. The farm benefits from good road access being on the A373, just 15 mins to the M5(J28) or 5 mins to the A30, both arterial roads across the county. Godford Farm offers a great base for you to get out and about not only discovering Devon, but Somerset & Dorset too.
The Child Friendly Cottages
With plenty of parking space outside the cottages the front garden is gated so that the children are safe to play without running into the courtyard. The comfortable modern cottages are mirror images of each other with a double bedroom and a twin bedroom sleeping a family of 4. The beautifully furnished cottages are graded 4 star and are equipped with everything you could need; a full size fridge freezer, mini dishwasher, washing machine and electric oven. The main living room looks over the garden, with seating area which is secluded from the main farm.
Sally can provide you with a large stash of baby and toddler paraphanalia so before you overload your car it may be best to check if she has it to hand. The comprehensive list includes a baby monitor, food blender, Bumbo, High chair, travel cot, duvet, duvet cover, changing mat, fold up push chair etc.
The Farm Facilities and Surrounding Farmland
For rainy days or to pass the time the games barn is a fantastic space away from the cottages to keep the kids amused. The teens will be happy with bar skittles, table tennis table and a pool table. The toddlers and pre-schoolers will squeal with delight when the see the whole host of ride on toys, play house, a slide and sandpit in the dedicated outside play area. Outside there is a large orchard garden with oodles of space for ball games and other outdoor games. Godford Farm itself offers 125 acres of farmland for you to explore, wellies needed for crossing streams, investigating the claypits, traditional hedgerows, wildlife, birdwatching and on sunny evenings watch the bats swoop and dive, before returning to the loft of the old farmhouse, where they have hung for many generations! Children will be enthralled to use the bat detector and listen to them clicking to each other.
Situated just over two miles from the historic market town of Honiton, with its twice weekly street markets (famous for lace) and many antique shops, 30 minutes from Exeter or Taunton. Take the opportunity to explore this beautiful corner of Devon, with its unspoilt southern coastline of pretty villages and smuggler's coves together with sandy beaches, ideal for children only 10 miles away. Exmouth is popular for its long sandy beach and wading in the shallows at low tide exploring the rock pools. Lyme Regis is great for fossil hunting, relaxing on the beach or sea fishing and you can borrow reference books, hammer, goggles etc to go fossil hunting from the farm. Sidmouth and Seaton provide the traditional seaside retreat, perfect for a stroll along the front with an ice cream or a cream tea at one of the many tea rooms and restaurants. Dartmoor, the Eden project and many National Trust Properties are all within easy reach.
